Collingwood Football Club, officially nicknamed The Magpies is an Australian rules football club which plays in the Australian Football League.

The players wear black and white striped guernseys, similar   more...to the colours of a magpie; thus their emblem, the magpie, and their motto "Floreat pica" ("Flourish Magpies!", or "May the Magpies Prosper!").

Collingwood has won 14 VFL/AFL premierships, behind Essendon and Carlton who have won 16 apiece. They hold the Record for most premierships won in a row, with four wins from 1927 to 1930, and remain the only club to have gone through a full Home and Away season undefeated (in 1929), despite a formidable challenge from arch rival Essendon in 2000 and Geelong in 2008, both sides winning 21 out of the 22 games in the Home and Away Season. Fittingly, Geelong was only beaten by Collingwood in the 2008 season.

The club traditionally represented the working class inner Melbourne suburb of Collingwood, Victoria, however it has since moved its training and administration base to the Gosch's Paddock and the Lexus Centre at Olympic Park in Melbourne. They moved their home games from their traditional suburban home ground, Victoria Park, to the much larger Melbourne Cricket Ground from 2000 onwards.

The Magpies are known for their passionate supporter base, usually referred to as "The Magpie Army". Traditional Melbourne suburban rivalries Essendon, Richmond and Carlton remain fierce. Collingwood has gained interstate rivals particular in Port Adelaide & Brisbane, but has retained the reputation in the national competition as the "team everybody loves to hate".

Historically and especially more recently, Collingwood games have attracted the largest attendances. In 1970, 121,696 spectators watched Collingwood and Carlton contest the Grand Final, the record attendance for a football game of any code in Australia. Collingwood has the largest membership of the 10 Victorian clubs. In the past, a large proportion of Collingwood supporters were Catholic and it was known as "The Catholic Club." in years gone by. The average crowd at Collingwood home games in 2007 was 54,898.

The noted Australian playwright David Williamson scripted The Club, a play inspired by the internal politics of Collingwood, although "the club" is never actually specified in the play or film. A film version was made in 1980 and features Collingwood players in speaking and non-speaking roles.

The best win by the CFC since the 2002 qualifying final in port without bucks. The boys were serverly undermanned but the relentless pressure of the whole 22 meant that Sydney ever got an inch. The pies   more...were in amazing form lead again by youngstars Thomas and Goldsack. Wakelin and Burnsy look like they had a new lease on life and it was great to see O'bree racking the touches up again.  less

It was built up to be a blockbuster and it didn't dissapoint, with both Pies and Freo desperatly wanting a win. Freo started the better and when H Shaw went down it looked like it could be there night.   more...However, in a trend that is becoming almost trademark the mighty Collingwood side went about getting themselves back into the game. It took pieces of brillance from Rocca, Pendles, Swan, Didak and Medhusrt, but nothing could compare with the highlights that leon davis put out. Collingwoods night got better as the game went on, the fans loved tazzas miss in the last qtr. This meant alot to the pies and it could be the start of a run to september.  less

Its Rivalry at its best, an all in brawl and then a come from behind win. Magic moments from Wakelin scoring his first goal and also Rocca who braught the house down with two trademark long goals.

Friday Night @ the Dome saw the pies get off to a good start with Rocca banging a big one through, as the first qtr went on the pies extended their lead with one of the goals of the year from the Brazilian   more...Harry O. The Saints pegged the pies back towards the end of the qtr and took a slender lead into qtr time. The second was similar to the first, quick moving exciting football. The Saints got out to a 14 point lead before the skipper lead from the front and kicked one from outside fifty. Thomas finished off a great first half for himself by putting the pies in front on the bell.
The third was controlled by the pies, it contained a now custom Leon Davis goal from the impossible and went through and finished with a dubious free/goal to Lockyer.
The last qtr was again the pies, however the ability to kill off a side was absent again, Didak kicked a goal which put them 16 points clear with 15mins to go however they couldn't continue as the Saints pilled on the pressure. The pies held up in a tight one by 9 points. Best players for the winners include; Didak, Burns, Davis, Thomas and Bryan.  less

Rivalry round saw more than 70,000 pack into the MCG on Sunday. The magpies were switched on from word go with a huge first term, they looked slick and sharp and moved the ball from one end to the other   more...with ease. The only respite the tigers got was a dodgy 50 paid to hand them a goal. The second wasn't much better for the tigers as the magpies piled on the goals at one stage leading by 71-17. Towards the end of the half the foot came off the gas allowing the tigers to ger a few. The second half was pretty much goal for goal with Shaw and Thomas putting in contenders for mark of the round. Wood finished it off the game with a great mark and his first goal, the pies running out winners by 44 points. Best were Medhurst, Shaw, Thomas, Didak, Davis and Shaw. The backline again held firm.  less

It was a case of welcome for the 45,000 strong crowd who witnessed the start of what many hope to be a promising magpie season. The Pies hosted the Dockers at the MCG, and started the more prominant.   more...Rocca and Didak getting the pies going. For the rest of the day it was pretty much goal for goal with nothing more than two goals in it. That was until the last quarter when a fitter and supieror magpies outfit flexed it's muscle running out 20+ point winners. Best for the pies were Swan, H Shaw, R Shaw and the leading goal kicker Anthony Rocca who kicked 6. A special congrats must go to Browny and Woody, welcome to senior black and white footy.

Collingwood travelled to moron park to face off against the crows. Going across the pies were very confident, however the media gave them no chance, paying $3.00 at the tab for the win. The confidence   more...was evident early as the pise motored out to a four goal lead. The crows came hard in the 2nd and the third, but 6 unanswered goals from the pies including 3 from Chris Bryan put the game beyound doubt. Best for the pies were R. Shaw, Lockyer and Burns.This was a famous victory for such a young side.  less

Michael McGuane kicked an amazing running goal against Carlton at the MCG, which saw him run from the centre-square along the wing and half-forward flank, closing to 30m and kicking it through the middle.   more...He bounced the ball 7 times during the famous run, and was deemed as one of the greatest goals of all-time.  less

Collingwood returned to the winners week this week with a pretty easy 73 point victory. It was everything we could've hoped for after the disappointing finish last week. Medhurst was simply outstanding   more...and so to Pendlebury and Cloke.

I had to do a fair bit of editing this week so sorry if I have missed your favourite highlight. They went with songs to the battle, they were young. Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.  less

In what was the most tightly contested last quarters since the 02 grand final, the pies somehow clawed their way off the floor and found a way to tie the game during the normal game time. Finals draws   more...= Extra time, and it seemed the pies players had more legs. The young brigade lead the pies into a prelim final with Pendles, Thomas, Goldsack brilliant, also deserving of notice were the unsung hereos in Didak, Davis and Medhurst whose forward and midfield pressure ensured the pies could get over the line. Dane Swan was the pies best with 38 possies and 11 clearences including 9(?) from the centre. Amazing performance in an Amazing match.  less

Collingwood made the finals for the second straight year and this time faced up against the Swans. After twice beating them through the season the pies were hell bent on repeating that result on the big   more...stage. The young magpies tackled and pressured Sydney into many mistakes, leading by 5 goals at QTR time. The Swans lifted through Goodes and Micky O to trail by only 4 points early in the 3rd. An amazing turn around then came over the game, with Rocca, Buckley, Pendlebury, Cloke and Rusling asserting their dominance over the game. The pies ran away with the victory by 38 points. They were happy to avenage a finals loss from last year and move on into the Semi Finals to take on the depleted WCE.  less

Collingwood for the first time in season 2007 went into battle with its champion Nathan Buckley leading them out, in what was always going to be an emotional game for the champ he provided the first of   more...the games highlights when he pin pointed dale thomas in side 50. From then on it looked like Collingwoods night. Sydney faught back early in the second only to find O'bree and Pendles back in there best clearence form. Led by young FF Shaun Rusling (4 goals 3) the pies were way to good for the swans running out 5 goal winners. The pies now have a slim chance of making the top 4, but require a few results to go there way.

A second straight Friday night game for the pies this week against the dees and david nietz 300th game. The pies came out hard and played some magical footy in the first half with great goals from davis   more...and didak. Burns and Swan prolific early. An unfortunate incident involving BJ sparked a Melbourne comeback but to the pies credit they held on to record there 12 victory of 2007.  less

Collingwood bounced back against old foes Carlton. At half time they looked shaky but 5 2nd half goals from big forward Anthony Rocca changed the game. A consistant match from Travis Cloke who put in   more...4 of his own. Collingwood are back on track with a 24 point victory.  less

The character of Collingwood shone through in the last with them kicking four goals to one to run out 29 point winners. Dale Thomas reflects on his junior footy days.

Collingwood were again without key personal, but as the saying goes it's the 22 on the park that matter. The pies showed this with a magic first qtr, especially from young Dale Thomas who gave us a sneak   more...peak into his plans for the day. The saints worked there way back into the game with some contencious umpiring decsions and by 2mins into the last they lead by 21 points. Only the bravest of Collingwood supports could've forseen what was about to happen. The mighty Collingwood train clicked over into overdrive and steamed home kicking 4-6 to nothing including an absolute ripper from Dale Thomas disallowed. Its was a spirited effort by the pies, who now face the rampent geelong.  less
