Eva Cassidy was an amazing singer, who had an incredible way of conveying emotions through the phrasing, volume changes, and timing of her beautiful vocals. The newspaper “The Washington Post” once eloquently   more...commented: “Eva could sing anything, and make it sound like the only music that mattered."

This beautiful, hauntingly poignant song is entitled “Autumn Leaves”, and is from her 2001 compilation album “Songbird”, which reached #1 on the Great Britain album charts. Sadly, the world lost this beautiful singer when she died WAYYY before her time at the age of only 33, from brutal melanoma cancer in 1996. The British newspaper "The Guardian" later went on to describe her as "one of the greatest voices of her generation." . . . I hope you enjoy her music as much as I do!

This is another of my favorite songs. It's by Simon & Garfunkel, and was released in the '60s. The amazing singer Eva Cassidy also did a version of the song before she died at the age of 33, so   more...I mixed the two song versions together to see what it would sound like, had they been able to perform the song together.

The photos are ones I took in England during various trips, and from when I lived there.

Here is another of my all time favorite romantic songs . . . Eva Cassidy's version of "Fields of Gold". The world lost this beautiful singer when she died WAYYY before her time at the age of   more...33 from cancer in 1996. (It's why I truly believe that you have to focus on each day of your life . . . you never know when your "personal time clock" will stop ticking.) The other sad thing is that Eva, during her life, was almost totally unknown outside her home area of Washington D.C. and became famous only after her death. The British newspaper "The Guardian" later went on to describe her as "one of the greatest voices of her generation." Her posthumously released recordings have since sold in excess of four million copies, and in early 2001 the compilation album Songbird reached #1 on the UK album charts. It's so sad she never lived to see the recognition she deserved . . . I hope you enjoy her music as much as I do!

The photos for this video are ones I took in England on various trips and from when I used to live over there. The primary castle shown in the video is Arundel Castle, in Arundel, West Sussex, England . . . I love wandering around old castles in Europe and visualizing the dozens of generations of people who have lived & died in them . . . it's amazing to look at stone steps in the castles that have been worn down simply from the thousands of people who have used them over the centures . . . it's also always eerie to visualize the battles that were fought at the castles and contrast those battles with the peaceful tranquility around these castles today . . . The Arundel castle was "remodeled" and expanded around 1300AD, and the initial castle built around 1100AD . . . it's always interesting to me how castles were often times remodeled WELL before the United States was even in EXISTENCE! :)

In addition to the castle (which also has a restaurant), the grounds include a beautiful old chapel, and gardens, and the town of Arundel is the quintessential old English town, so yeah, I highly recommend this beautiful place if you ever get to this part of England :)

I really like this song so I wanted to give it a try. Hope you like it :)

I was so saddened to hear of the death of Eva Cassidy which was approx 12 years ago that I was inspired to write a song for her. I saw so much of myself in her and it was such a shame that fame came her   more...way only after she had died. Bless you Eva where ever you are!!! xxx  less

The Wey and Arun Canal, in Southern England, runs 23 miles (37 km) through 26 locks from the River Wey at Shalford, Surrey to the River Arun at Pallingham.

The River Arun was used in an unimproved condition   more...for centuries, but work was carried out on the river itself and the port of Arundel in the 16th century, which allowed boats to reach Pallingham Quay near Pulborough by 1575. In 1810, the 3rd Earl of Egremont began to promote the idea of a canal to link the Rivers Wey and Arun, separated by only 15 miles (24 km). Part of the justification for this canal through a very rural area, with few of the cargoes which had made other canals profitable, was to provide an inland route from London to the south coast of England, an important consideration as England was at war with France and thus coastal shipping at risk of attack.

By the time it was opened, however, the war with France was over and thus one of the key reasons for its construction was removed. As a result, the canal system was never very prosperous, but did reasonably well, with a maximum of 23,000 tons carried in 1839. However, railway competition hit hard in 1865, with the opening of the Guildford and Horsham Railway, which was in direct competition with the canal. The canal was officially abandoned in 1871.

Without maintenance, the canal gradually became derelict over much of its length. However, since 1970, active restoration by The Wey & Arun Canal Trust has resulted in several miles of the waterway being restored to navigable standard. Work is continuing, with the ultimate aim of reopening the entire canal to navigation.

Eva Cassidy was born 2 February 1963. Growing up in a musical family on the outskirts of Washington, DC, she sang as a small child and later learned to play the guitar.
In 1986 she did the art work for   more...a projected album by a band, Method Actor, led by a friend, Dave Lourim. She was asked to sing on the album and was heard by producer Chris Biondo who, impressed by her raw talent, encouraged her and introduced her to other musicians.
Later in the year, following a medical check-up, Eva Cassidy had outpatient surgery for a malignant skin lesion on her back. Early in 1994
1996 Eva had been experiencing pain in her hip for some time and diagnosis confirmed advanced melanoma. She was told that she had three to five months to live. Eva Cassidy died on 2nd November 1996. She was only 33 years old. Eva's soul-stirring voice is reaching people all over the world.  less
