Heh, I was listening to some music early on, and my mother made a comment that Hall and   more...Oates' 'Maneater' sounded a lot like Azula. Luckly, I was listening to it with her. And I couldn't have agreed more.

And, this my friends, is what happens when I get a urge to do some kind of AMV. This thing is born.

Sadly...this isn't a full video, (I'm too lazy. And I kinda ran out of ideas and clips...go figure ^^;)

And, as if anyone cannot tell. I kinda...cut out the Jazz solo in this. It was too long, and difficult for me to finish this with it. Don't kill me Hall And Oates. D:

Dael Oates, rising director from Prodigy and former Animal Logic VFX designer, brings an air of sophisticated complexity to Milo B-Smart’s latest TVC, which aired on Sunday June 1st.

The spot opens with   more...a boy arriving at school on his bike who upon removing his helmet reveals his skilfully-animated “INFRO” (“info-afro”). Focus then shifts to a classroom where we see information from the blackboard entering the boy’s INFRO; graphics, writing and diagram. The hero is then depicted in various situations where we see his INFRO change and evolve, becoming an abstract visualisation of the child’s mind at work.

The spot expertly balances live action with stylish animation, no easy challenge for any director to overcome. “There [was] a fine balance between all factors…We never like the VFX to get in the way of a good performance!” comments Oates.

This spot geniously utilises complicated design elements and unique CG animation to depict the INFROs, making them appear “alive with possibility”. Oates manages to depict them as complex and intricate, whilst simultaneously easy to ‘read’, not in a literal sense, but as an object the audience understands from the beginning.

The TVC was shot with the actors wearing skull caps created as CG graphics as hair – a complex process that required Oates to call on his extensive VFX and creative experience whilst working in collaboration with The Lab  less

Man wearing thong and fake breasts arrested, Jon Oates from Hall and Oates has been turned into super hero, Man relaxes in Park with Pants Down and People Scammed by Stone Cold Fraud at a Wal Mart.

Directed by Dael Oates of Prodigy, the spot opens with a group of girls in a bleak, winter playground struggling to enjoy a game of hopscotch. The focus shifts to one little girl with blonde hair who   more...rubs her nose with a sniffle and a cough.

The piece develops from an aloof and almost numinous tone to an “over the top” sense of sentimental dream-like warmth, rich with possibility.

Oates, inspired by Jean-Pierre Jeunet films such as Amelie, Delicatessen and City of Lost Children, has managed to keep the spot beautifully crafted, yet simple.

“I want[ed] to make this theatrical [and] over the top…Play up the sentimentality and the dream like ‘warm glow’ sequence”, says Oates. “This [was] all about the styling and how far to push it.”  less
