Interestingly, the school which featured as Degrassi Jr. High was located just around the corner from where   more...I lived in Toronto, and the Towers Store in which the Vouls gets caught "shoplifting" and Melanie gets her first bra were filmed in the store I worked in, on Carlaw St. (Towers was a large Canadian chain, now long gone).

The Shopper's Drug Mart where Joey bought half the store in order to buy condoms is just down the street from where I lived, as well.  less

Possibly my favorite show. I only watched it once or twice when it was on originally (because my family didn't own a TV) but watched it in reruns FAITHFULLY when we did finally get a TV. When I was little,   more...before my Mom remarried, we didn't own a TV but the family we rented part of the house to did. Mom remarried in 1963 but we still didn't own a TV until .... must have been 1968 or so.

The show centred on a group of kids who seemed to live, completely without direct adult supervision, in a fort in the northern Canadian woods, in the fictional town of Indian River. They were looked in on by the Chief Forest Ranger. George Keeley; local Indian guide, Joe Two Rivers (played by a non-Indian, of course); and the local RCMP constable, Sgt. Scott (played by veteran Canadian actor, Gordon Pinsent)/

They were constantly either getting themselves into and out of trouble, or rescuing adults w(usually city folk) ho were foolish enough not to take the advice of locals, or catching miscreants who had robbed a bank or were illegally poaching.

The townfolk were comprised of good-natured and/or grizzled eccentrics like restaurant-owner Aggie Apple (played by another veteren actor, Barbara Hamilton) or John Angus Mcleod the 100-year old prospector,

* Syme Jago as Gaby La Roche
* Joe Austin as Mcleod
* Tom Harvey as Deputy Ranger Brody
* Ronald Cohoon as Zeke
* George Allan as Ted
* Barbara Hamilton as Aggie Apple

A favorite show from my childhood, though I watched it in the late 50s. The Friendly Giant, with his friends Rusty the Rooster and Gerome the Giraffe, as well as The Cat Band (all puppets), entertained   more...generations of kids with stories, songs (with Bob Homme , who played The Friendly Giant, on recorder) and film clips, usually themed to something within the show... snow, Hallowe'en, fairs...

It went off the air in 1984 when the CBC made drastic funding cuts.

Bob Homme passed away in the year 2000.  less
