InterPares, a Canadian organization working with women world-wide towards peace and justice, urges us to take back the day... in this case, Mother's Day.

Mother's Day was originally created as a day to   more...bring together families and communities torn apart by the American Civil War. It's creator, Anna Maria Reeves Jarvis, and her daughter Anna Jarvis campaigned to make the celebration nationally recognised as a day of peace and justice, through a shared love of mothers -- in the name of mothers world-wide.

Sadly, as the day became more widely celebrated, the original intention was lost and commercial in tone. By 1917, Anna Jarvis was actively campaigning to have it stopped.

InterPares urges us to "Take Back The Day" by recognising and assisting women, in the name of our mothers, in achieving peace and justice in their communities and countries.
