One of the worst nights I have spent in my home was the night Ike decided to roll into Texas. Mother Nature unleashed its strength upon the Texas Coast on September of 2008. And this is what I saw when   more...it was finally safe to go outside.  less

This very short video of personal moments from Hurricane Ike, the storm that slammed Galveston and Houston in 2008. Linden Hudson shot this simple, short video of events as seen from his house. Nothing   more...spectacular here, it was dark when the storm rolled through Houston. Linden was without electricity for eleven days. He was lucky. Others were without electricity for a month. People in this neighborhood had to cook on their driveways for weeks on charcoal grills or camp burners. We see a "looters will be shot" sign on a house the next morning in this video. Interesting. But, things were actually very orderly in these parts after the storm. This was a hardcore storm.  less

Linden Hudson (Media Production Crew Member) took this video with his Canon Powershot while on assignment in Galveston 2 1/2 weeks after hurricane Ike. Big boats are on the highway. A shrimpboat is   more...in a restaurant parking lot. The downtown area had all the first floor restaurants and businesses gutted by high water. The shuttle Atlantis will lift off on Oct. 14 at 10:19 p.m. local time from Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The original date was Oct. 10. “While vehicle processing at Kennedy continues on schedule, the lost week of training and mission preparation due to the storm led to the decision to slip the dates,” NASA said. Hurricane Ike, the most devastating storm to hit Texas in half a century, forced the evacuation of the Houston space center on Sept 11. Operations resumed two days ago. The 1,600-acre base was mostly unaffected. A few structures suffered window and roof damage, and several light poles and trees were downed. During the storm, Johnson workers set up a makeshift Mission Control near Austin, where they managed operations on the International Space Station. Hurricane Ike, a Category 2 storm at landfall with winds of 110 mph per hour, caused at least $11.5 billion worth of destruction across Texas. The Atlantis crew will make repairs to the Hubble Space Telescope during its 11-day mission. The repairs will keep the Hubble operational until its replacement, the James Webb space telescope, is launched in 2013.  less
