On Friday evening, Sept. 26, 2008, a rally was held, in Baltimore, MD, to advocate for “Health Security for All,” and specifically for a health care program, such as the one embodied in HR676, the “National   more...Health Insurance Act.” That pending federal legislation, if passed by the Congress and signed into Law, would guarantee continuous lifelong care for all people. See: http://www.healthcare-now.org and http://www.hr676.org/ for background. The setting for the spirited event was the historic Union Baptist Church. The affair was sponsored by an array of progressive organizations. The speakers included, but not in the order of their appearance: Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, Baltimore City’s Health Commissioner; Maryland Del. Jill Carter (D-41); Maryland Del. Roger Manno (D-19); representatives from the faith-based community and the NAACP; health care advocates, poets, AFSME’s Dave Harding, President of Local 1535; musicians; along with Dr. Margaret Flowers and Ms. Brigitte Marti.
