LVbianSynic recently posted a video for Mr. Anonymous and called for any responses that might offer up some words of understanding, I believe. This blog is about hearing of my father's death and grieving   more...for it differently than others. I also talk about a classmate in high school who died in a car accident and how I attempted to physically grieve for her after hearing that news.

"The Day Dad Died"

I'm in a good mood:
plans to make sushi are underway.
Illustrated cookbook open
demonstrating how to prepare
California roll, Avocado roll,
and Smoked Salmon roll.
I measure Koshihikari rice,
tinkling like seed beads into
the metal cup, rinse thoroughly,
then pour one and a fourth
cups of tap water into a pan,
set it on the stove's eye.
I've not yet turned on the heat.

I hold the cup of rice in my hand
when the phone rings. I answer.
Mom speaks. "Okay," I say.
She hangs up. I sit still.

On the stove four days later
sits the saucepan of water,
on the counter the cup
of measured sticky rice,
waiting to be slow-cooked
and formed into sushi rolls.
I pour the water down the drain,
water tapping the metal pan,
echoing Taps, and return
the rice to its container,
and leave the kitchen.

BF2 needs more people with microphones.

This song came to me while I was thinking about loved ones I have lost. We all experience that overwhelming sense of grief and loss. I wrote the song down while I was feeling the sadness and recorded   more...it immedaitely while I still had the feeling. The vocal is a bit rough in places but I am driven by pure emotion on this one so that may have caused it I think. I made the music up as I went, not too complicated.  less

This is a short trailer for Mejpye's film adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven," for which I supplied the narration.

My narrative interpretation of the poem is rather different from various   more...Hollywood attempts at it. I see the poem, not as horror, but as a character study of a man whose terrible grief destroys his sanity. Given his madness, and the unlikelihood of an actual bird performing the deeds attributed to it in the poem, I prefer to conclude that the raven is purely imaginary; a product of a broken mind, a dark fluttering upon the narrator's soul.
