Banksy is a well-known pseudo-anonymous[1] English graffiti artist. He is believed to be a native of Yate, South Gloucestershire, near Bristol[1] and born in 1974,[2] but there is substantial public uncertainty   more...about his identity and personal and biographical details.[3] According to Tristan Manco, Banksy "was born in 1974 and raised in Bristol, England. The son of a photocopier engineer, he trained as a butcher but became involved in graffiti during the great Bristol aerosol boom of the late 1980s."[4] His artworks are often-satirical pieces of art on topics such as politics, culture, and ethics. His street art, which combines graffiti writing with a distinctive stencilling technique, is similar to Blek le Rat, who began to work with stencils in 1981 in Paris and members of the anarcho-punk band Crass who maintained a graffiti stencil campaign on the London Tube System in the late 1970s and early 1980s. His art has appeared in cities around the world.[5] Banksy's work was borne out of the Bristol underground scene which involved collaborations between artists and musicians.
Banksy does not sell photos of street graffiti or mount exhibitions of screenprints in commercial galleries.[-------------Technique

Asked about his technique, Banksy said "I use whatever it takes. Sometimes that just means drawing a moustache on a girl's face on some billboard, sometimes that means sweating for days over an intricate drawing. Efficiency is the key".[38]
Stencils are traditionally hand drawn or printed onto sheets of acetate or card, before being cut out by hand. Because of the secretive nature of Banksy's work and identity, it is uncertain what techniques he uses to generate the images in his stencils, though it is assumed he uses computers for some images due to the photorealistic nature of much of his work.  less

The documentary series GRAFFITI VERITE' continues with this fourth entry, which departs from the earlier ones. Bob Bryan's fourth film is a how-to guide that reveals the basic techniques for   more...creating graffiti art murals and aerosol artworks on walls and canvas. Viewers will join two-time award-winner of the International Graffiti Art Competition, graffiti artist SANO as he demonstrates the techniques used to create visually spectacular graffiti art works on walls (murals) and canvas. This step-by-step tutorial covers the concepts, aesthetics, techniques and style required to master the underground urban art form, and sheds light on the misunderstandings surrounding the discipline.

During the presentation, SANO discusses the concepts and theories behind graffiti art, hoping to foster a better appreciation for this often misunderstood artform. GRAFFITI VERITE 4 is one of the few instructional titles that teaches the popular medium of dynamic graffiti art. Prima serata del Write for Food 2007, manifestazione benefica organizzata da "Tribù dell'indice", prima Associazione Italiana Writers, per raccogliere fondi da destinare alla Fondazione   more...Pane Quotidiano di Milano, che si occupa da anni della distribuzione di cibo per i più poveri e i senza tetto. Un venerdì al mese, per quattro venerdì a partire da febbraio 2007, 4 writers fra i più celebri della scena italiana hanno dato libero sfogo alla propria vena artistica, realizzando su tela eccezionali opere pittoriche. L'avvenimento si è svolto nel cortile d'ingresso della discoteca De Sade di Milano. Al termine delle quattro serate le sedici tele sono state battute all'asta e il ricavato, come già detto, è stato devoluto in beneficenza.  less

Thomas McNamara, otherwise known as Macky, has been making art for as long as he can remember, winning sculpting contests as early as junior high. At 11, his father got him a lead soldier-making kit.   more...That’s when art was introduced and it quickly became evident that it was to be his purpose in life. At 11 he could melt the lead in a small pot, pour it into molds, and paint the little figurines. These soldiers were often given to his parent’s friends. The response was wild - the adults all loved them!! As a boy this was real validation for a child surrounded by intimidating, book-smart people. The art carried Macky into all the art classes at Cardinal Newman high school. His love for lead figure painting continued to grow during this period. It was the MTV generation, which Macky believes also had a huge impact on him . . . Since then, there have been many great moments, including showcasing Macky's art on two episodes of MTV's “PUNK'd”, which featured Ashlee Simpson and Hugh Jackman.

Mutt™ has been the label for Macky's passion since 1997. Just recently, Mutt donated a customized 3-foot skateboard to the Rush foundation, a charity created to send kids to art school.
