As is works to weather the storm, Freddie Mac turned in its 4th consecutive losing quarter. In a larger than expected drop, Freddie Mac reported an $821 million loss for the second quarter, as compared   more...to a $729 million profit in Q2 of last year. The nation’s second largest residential mortgage provider is looking to wait it out, and contends it still has a surplus above the required amount of capital needed to lend. Recently, the government got involved in providing billions of dollars in federal, “emergency” funding for loans and investments to both Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Still, Freddie Mac will see how that helps going forward, as company expects the market to pick back up in 2009. In the meantime, the Virginia-based company is working to cut its dividend by 80% in efforts to preserve capital. Freddie Mac has seen $4.6 billion dollars in cumulative losses over the last 4 quarters, with $2.8 billion coming from realized and anticipated losses.
