Hand-made demo video of SpaceBall, the first First Person Ball-Sport developed over 5-years ago. The software is a fully working and bug-free Prototype 0.3 that requires DirectX 9 to run (most modern   more...PC are way beyond that) and ideally a joystick. The download is around 5Mb though currently not available on any public software site .. that may change shortly. If you are interested in playing the game, please leave a comment and some info. A goal of the project is to promote peaceful exploration of space, which is why there will be no guns on the SpaceBall Podcraft, even though such a game (a kind of search-and-destroy and hide-and-seek amongst asteroids and DeathStar spaceship debris) would be enourmously fun to play with using the Spaceball arcade zero-G flight sim system. It works, I still enjoy taking the occassional flight 3-years after the project was put on hold. However the Soccer World Cup in 2010 looms and the new version OLPC XOs are faster ...  less

SEA AND SKY is also the title of the major work on the program, one of the first successful integrations of synthesizers and symphony orchestra... by Japanese composer STOMU YAMASHTA. A fearless experimenter, YAMASHTA has had a unique and varied international career as a percussionist and composer of popular electronic music and scores for film and theater.

PGM NOTE : a journey across time and space -- celebrating 25 years of national broadcasting
FIRST BROADCAST : 1-Jan-1983
INTRO : 1983...the year before the infamous 1984. It seems lifetimes ago, but that was the year that a syndicated music program called HEARTS of SPACE began to appear on public radio stations around the U.S. And that means that 2008 is the 25th anniversary of the national program.
To celebrate our 25th year, we've selected 25 programs that give an overview of the series and the sound we call ambient, space and contemplative music. We're going to call the series "25 YEARS IN SPACE." We'll start with three retrospective shows this month, and then one a month after that.

Beginnings take on more significance over time, so we'll begin the series with Program Number One, "FIRST FLIGHT." On our premiere program, we featured music by a group of artists who became familiar names in the HEARTS of SPACE pantheon of composers. It's a journey across 25 years of time...and space.
