I actually have had some thing happen that make me tempted to believe in the deist god. I am still agnostic towards that god and reject all others.

What do the Christians mean "standing up?"

Does anyone really care what others think online? Probably not. But, that doesn't stop us from speaking our mind and meeting new folks.

My take on the text and the end time indicators. I tried to do this in a respectful way and hope to raise questions on the issue.

The text used is a direct opposite of the teaching of Paul because in his   more...theology he teaches that one should not be of the world but should be separate. And that the world is unclean. It is my opinion that Paul hijacked the teachings and sayings of Jesus and turned it into a belief system of his own ideas and theology.

"I mean, brothers and sisters,the appointed time has grown short; from now on, let even those who have wives be as though they had none, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no possessions, and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away. I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to please the Lord; but the married man is anxious about the affairs of the world, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided. And the unmarried woman and the virgin are anxious about the affairs of the Lord, so that they may be holy in body and spirit; but the married woman is anxious about the affairs of the world, how to please her husband. I say this for your own benefit, not to put any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and unhindered devotion to the Lord. If anyone thinks that he is not behaving properly toward his fiancee, if his passions are strong, and so it has to be, let him marry as he wishes; it is no sin. Let them marry. But if someone stands firm in his resolve, being under no necessity but having his own desire under control, and has determined in his own mind to keep her as his fiancee, he will do well."

This technique of 'borrowing" is called "pesharim" it is also used in the Dead sea scrolls.

The texts of Maccabees tells of the resistance to the Greek Hellenization policies. Maccabees 4 the Greeks use torture devices.

Also "The Teacher of righteousness" may have some relevance.

The Sermon on the mount spoke in apocalyptic and metaphoric terms of the global reversal of the current order.  less

Mark:14 Mark is the earliest account in Epic form, where the sayings and works that circulated were possibly tied together. The other   more...Gospels seem to try to improve on Mark. The"q" source is possibly used in the other gospels and not in Mark.

Also the parable of the prodigal son may be relevant for when the son returns he is clothed and a ring is put on his finger.

As the essay related, the serpent in the garden may have tricked the humans into eating the tree of good and evil so they would not eat of the tree of life and live forever, which as Genesis relates the heavenly council was worried about.

Then the Lord God said, "See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"— therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.
(Gen 3:22-23 NRSV)

Christ was also semi divine even though he was divine he still had to face death. Even after he returns from the underworld he is clothed in heavenly garb.

Also may have relevance to a different way of viewing communion and why it has become such an important ritual.
