I always saw this thing from afar anytime I was on this beach in the early evening....but a friend of mine took me there, and I got to see it up close.

Full-Circle

Rodney's mom, when he was young,
taught him how to toddle.
When he took his first few steps,
How his butt did waddle!

Soon enough, his pet dog, Spike,
  more...was looking for a way
To stay outside of Rodney's reach
and make it through the day.

Spike had been an only dog;
the house was his to rule.
Spike's one hope was that he'd last
'til Rodney started school.

Years went by, and Spike grew old,
but Rodney's legs just grew.
Past the dog they carried him,
as 'round the yard he flew.

On he went, he never stopped;
around the track he'd run.
Racing brought him joy until
his final meet was done.

Now and then, when Rodney played
tag with his little son,
He thought about his running days
and races he had won.

Time moves on, and Rod's grown old;
his youth has passed him by.
Grandkids racing 'round his knees
remind him how time flies.

Rodney finds it hard to sit;
he's always on the go.
With his new replacement hip,
of course he takes it slow.

Twice a week, come rain or shine,
he gives his mom a call.
Once they don their walking shoes,
they head off for the mall.

Arm in arm, they slowly stroll,
careful not to toddle.
What a sight this couple makes.
How their butts do waddle!
