Sugar (a carbohydrate) is dehrydrated with concentrated sulfuric acid. Since a carbohydrate was once considered just hydrated carbon, if you remove the water, carbon would be left over. Like a lemon, a potato can produce electricicty if a copper and zinc terminals are inserted in it. The copper terminal is positive whereas the zinc is negative.

The chemical reaction inside the potato   more...causes the electrons to move from the zinc to the copper.

This is a result of my first viewer suggestion...Use science to melt a Barbie doll. I personally find Bratz dolls more annoying, so I included them too! The demonstration   more...is to see which of the two commonly available and powerful solvents (Xylene and Acetone) affects the dolls more adversely. Keep watching to the end, that's when it gets HOT and a bit 'splodey!
