Here we see a UFO on the ground in West Carlton, Canada. This is among the best and most irrefutable sightings in history. It is really amazing that the RCMP thought it was a helicopter. Almost all police   more...forces all around the world have given amazing accounts of UFO sightings, and accurate reports, not the RCMP. Could someone please send pictures of helicopters to the RCMP. The RCMP look great on horseback, but they have not evolved yet to observing UFOs. Next  less

My Canada Day tribute. As July 1 fell on a Sunday this year, Canada Day is celebrated on July 2.... Well, it is and it isn't.... As usual with the beaurocratic mentality that made up "The Holiday   more...Act", Canadians get July 2nd off "to celebrate Canada Day" Of course, all the celebrations are actually held on the 1st, so anyone who actually had to work... anyone making minimum wage in a store, restaurant, anyplace with any reason to be open on July 1st, doesn't get to celebrate with the resto Canadians. They get to "celebrate" on Monday, when there isn't anything going on.

However, a call to Consumer and Corporate Affairs, here in Ottawa, allows you to experience "Newspeak" up close and personal about how this is "good thing"... not of course for employees who have to work on July the 1st... for their employers! And, of course, the comfort of employees is secondary to the right of the employer to scrap $1.75 more out of the buying public. Since I likely won't be in Ottawa for Canada Day this year, I thought I would upload this early. Filmed last year in front of the national War Memorial (scene of the much publicized drunken urination   more...scandal). Fireworks to follow.  less

Hockey in Canada is the national sport

Unfortunately, it is hard to see them... but the music is worth listening to.

I was driving home from work the other evening and spotted Canada Geese forming up for their for their evening flight to wherever   more...they sleep. You can't see them terribly well but there were probably more than 500 in the sky in various groups. That's Diana Krall on the car radio with "The Night We Called It A Day" -- a beautiful song. I will have to do a driving movie with it, now.  less

Boards of Canada's unique sound is a product of their strong use of analogue equipment, mix of electronic and conventional instrumentation, use of distorted samples   more...as well as live and radio or film lyrics, and their layering and blending of these elements.Their deliberate eschewal of a purely synthetic sound gives their music a warmer, emotive quality, often meant to inspire nostalgia.

Brief interludes or "vignettes" feature prominently in their music. Such songs are often weaving melodies or speech accompanied by atmospherics to capture a specific moment or mood. They often last less than two minutes, but, as Sandison says, "those short tracks you mention, we write far more of those than the so-called 'full on' tracks, and, in a way, they are our own favorites".

Boards of Canada have written an enormous number of song fragments and songs, most of which will never be released. It does not appear that their music is made exclusively for commercial release; rather, albums seem to be the result of selecting complementary songs from current work. For instance, Geogaddi's development involved the creation of 400 song fragments and 64 complete songs, of which 23 were selected (one of which is complete silence).Says Eoin: "The idea of the perfect album is this amorphous thing that we're always aiming at [...] the whole point of making music is at least to aim at your own idea of perfection."  less
