It is an appropriate description of the archipelago as there are estimated more...to be a total of 17,508 islands, of which only about 6,000 are inhabited, stretching for 5,150 km between the Australian and Asian continental mainlands and dividing the Pacific and Indian Oceans at the Equator. Five main islands and 30 smaller archipelagoes are home to the majority of the population. The main islands are Sumatra (473,6O6 sq.km), Kalimantan 1539,400 sq.km), Sulawesi l 189,216 sq. km), Irian Jaya (421,981 sq. km), and last but not leastJava (132,187 sq.km), home to 70 percent of the country's population. Indonesia shares Irian Jaya with Papua New Guinea and two thirds of the island of Kalimantan with Malaysia and Borneo. The islands and people of Indonesia constitute the fourth most populated nation in the world. As a democratic republic, Indonesia is divided into 32 provinces, special territories and classified geographically into four groups.
First are the Greater Sundas, made up of the larger islands of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. Second are the Lesser Sundas, consisting of smaller islands from Bali eastward to Timor. Divers travel thousands of miles to experience more...the amazing wonders of the underwater realm and where better than to the bio-diversity hotspot of Southern Asia - Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.
With its sandy beaches, tropical islands, blue waters, coral reefs and atolls, Sabah has several dive sites rated to be amongst the top ten in the world and many more yet to be truly explored.
Over the years many prominent marine biologists have visited and dived Sabah's waters, including oceans' greatest ambassador, Jacques Costeau. He commented 'I have seen other places like Sipadan, 45 years ago, but now no more. Now we have found again an untouched piece of art ... a jewel'.
In fact a diver may find rare or endangered sea creatures such as green and hawksbill turtles, napolean wrasse, giant clams, as well as countless species of sharks and schools of thousands of barracuda and jacks. Sabah is not only know for its reef's larger inhabitants but also as a 'Muck diving' paradise with such rarities as the mimic octopus, flamboyant cuttlefish mandarin fish, harlequin ghost pipefish plus manu types of weird and wonderful frogfish and nudibranchs.
These underwater delights are not restricted to the certified diver; snorkelers and hopeful divers may enroll in one of the many PADI affiliated dive courses run at any of Sabah's dive resorts. Whatever your underwater wish, Sabah's seas and coral reefs can easily fulfill and surpass your wildest dream. less Tags: malaysia sabah travel destiantion scuba diving padi course adventure dive kapalai island sempornalankayan island sandakan layanglayang island kota kinabalu capital city) libaran island mabul island mataking island pulau tiga survivor island" kuala penyu tunku abdul rahman park turtle island park Category: Travel & Places Views: 164 Comments: 0 Added: Apr 15, 08 By: ozonetvonnet | | | | | Visit Sabah Malaysian Borneo Destination wwwozonetvnet 14:39Sabah is a Malaysian state located on the northern portion of the island of Borneo. It is the second largest state in Malaysia after Sarawak, which it borders with on its south-west. It also shares a more...border with the province of East Kalimantan of Indonesia in the south. Sabah used to be a British crown colony known as North Borneo prior to partnership with Federation of Malaya, Sarawak and Singapore to form the Federation of Malaysia in 1963. Its state capital is Kota Kinabalu, formerly known as Jesselton. Sabah is known as Sabah, negeri di bawah bayu, which means 'Sabah, land below the wind', because of its location being just south of the typhoon prone region around the Philippines.for more information please contact Sabah Tourism Board Official Website, the premiere information hub of the Sabah tourism industry...www.sabahtourism.com less Tags: visit malaysia year 2008 asean tourism forum 2008 malaysia travel destination sabah sarawak kinabalu hotels resorts spa wellness business travel coporate travel leisure mice meeting incentive convention exhibition festival event outdoor activities adventure ecotourism fashion shopping entertainment cutural music dance arts Category: Travel & Places Views: 488 Comments: 0 Added: Jan 31, 08 By: ozonetvonnet | | | | | I Love Kuala Belait Original) 03:44I lived in Brunei Darussalam for two years and some months. We were stationed in the exciting city of Kuala Belait (KB), near the border of Malaysia, where we would make regular trips to stock up on beer more...and wine, which can not be sold (legally) in Brunei. I joined up with three other expats - a Scotsman, an Irishman and an Englishman, [no, I'm not telling a joke!] to form a folk group called The Belaiters (pronounced "Blighters"). Fortunately two of the others were good guitarists so I could get away with a bit of background strumming. Realising that most of the great cities of the world had songs written about them, I thought it was time to celebrate KB in song. So I wrote this to sing at some of our performances. It will not make a lot of sense to people unfamiliar with the delights of this great cosmopolitan city, but I'll be happy to answer any questions about the lyrics.
In Brunei, I mainly sang this song to expat audiences, but, since I put it up on YouTube, it has become a big hit with the locals. Quite unexpected as my songs about other places, e.g. Hong Kong, have had very little impact.
Lyrics:
Driving down the road from Jerudong Don't just stop when you reach Tutong. With a little bit of luck you might Make it all the way to Kuala Belait.
...I'm going back to KB, baby. ...That's where I want to be, ...Where the teapot sits on the roundabout ...And the donkey nods at me.
In the middle of the city we've got Jalan Pretty. That's where all the action is at night. You can have a lot of fun in Bandar Sri Begawan But you can't beat Kuala Belait.
...I'm going back to KB, baby. ...That's where I want to be, ...Where the teapot sits on the roundabout ...And the donkey nods at me. ...Bandar Seri Begawan ...Is not the place for everyone. ...'Cause I love - that's right - ...I love Kuala Belait.
This city is expanding at a furious pace. New buildings going up all over the place The High Court will open - one of these days. (Spoken: Well ... it might.) I love Kuala Belait. We've got plenty of rice and the noodles are nice. This town is a gourmet's delight. You can't go wrong with roti kosong At New Akbar in Kuala Belait.
In KB town you can watch the sun go down Sitting on the sand at night. See the oil rigs burning bright, while the sand flies bite. On the beach at Kuala Belait. Let me make this clear -- I really like Seria The billionth barrel is a wonderful site, But nothing can compare with the excitement in the air In downtown Kuala Belait.
