I really love this song... not just for the tune, but I like the off-beat lyrics... not to mention the waltz-like feeling in the first verse.

I must admit, when I was offered Gordon Lightfoot's "Protocol", and actually listened to it, it scared me to death! So much history had to be packed into such a short timeframe, that I avoided   more...it for some time before finally getting down to it. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary, defines Protocol as "a code prescribing strict adherence to correct etiquette and precedence (as in diplomatic exchange and in the military services). Gordon Lightfoot's "Protocol" is a lesson in history.
