"Tourist Trophy Isle Of Man 2005"

The 2005 Isle of Man TT Festival was the 98th run and took place between Saturday 28 May and Friday 10 June on the 37.73 mile   more...(60.72 km) Mountain course. The first week (between 28 May and 3 June) is known as the practice week, before the real action was due to commence on 4 June. Bad weather meant that the Superbike race was held over until Sunday (5 June). There were only 7 races in this year because this was the first year the smaller 250 bikes & Production models did not race at the TT, instead they were replaced with Superbike, Supersport & Superstock races.

The Sidecar TT Race A, was supposed to be race 2 but due to inclement weather forced the postponement of the Superbike TT for 24 hours, the Sidecars became the first race.

"Tourist Trophy Isle Of Man 2006"

The 99th anniversary Isle of Man TT Festival ran between Saturday May 27th and Friday June 9th on the 37.73-mile Mountain Course.   more...The first week (between May 27 and June 2) is known as the practice week, before the real action commenced on the 3rd of June. There were 6 races in TT week. John McGuinness broke the lap record during practice for the Superbike race and then did it again in the race itself. He recorded a lap of 17:41.71, breaking the Superbike record from last year by 8.62 seconds and his outright lap record by 2.1 seconds.

McGuinness then went on to take his first TT hat-trick by winning the Senior TT on June 9, destroying the lap record in the process. He set a lap of 17:39.95 from a standing start then 17:29.26 on his 2nd lap (breaking his own lap record by 10 seconds). However, the meeting was overshadowed by the death of Japanese rider Jun Maeda on June 6th due to injuries suffered in a practice crash.

I’ve always had a fascination with trains . . . . . I was fortunate to grow up in a time when, as a kid, I could still see the incredible, massive, old, powerful, smelly, noisy, visceral, menacing, WONNNNDERFUL   more...steam locomotives. . . it was always an amazing experience as a kid, watching these aging behemoths arriving at a station . . . you could hear these monsters coming from a LONG, LONG ways off, and could see the smoke and steam from the smokestacks, announcing the eminent arrival of these brutes . . . I was always in awe of the sheer size of the locomotives and vividly remember having to look WAYYYY up to the top of the huge driver wheels . . . . . . to watch these locomotives arrive at a railroad station was always “An Event”, so I spent a LOT of time at my nearby railroad station watching these trains come and go . . .

Then the steam locomotives came less and less often . . . as they were replaced by, in my opinion, the boring, sterilized, pasteurized, homogenized, understated modern Diesel-Electric Locomotives we see everywhere in the USA today, as the old steam locomotives went the way of the slide rule and buggy whip . . .

“Tempus Fugits” . . . so yeah, anyway, I still love trains tho’ :) :) (I just miss those old behemoths, most of which have long since been trashed and melted down :( )

In later years, before I could afford a car, I would hop slow moving freight trains to ride back and forth short distances to places I needed to go . . . . not “QUITE” the safest way to travel, but it was sure lots of FUN!! :) The “game” of course became to see where my “comfort level” ended, i.e., at what speed the train would get up to, before I felt it would become UNsafe to jump off without falling, and thereby risking accompanying body abrasions, contusions, concussions, or worse LOL . . . I’m still here today, with all body parts (and lifelong adrenaline junkie attitude) still attached and in working order, so guess it all worked out OK :)

“ “Tempus Fugits” . . . so yeah, anyway” (Part Two) . . . part of the joy I have in England is that they’ve got a wonderful train system that connects SOOOOOOO many great places to visit, and, AND. . . . their trains almost always RUN ON TIME!!!, versus America’s Amtrak system where trains can OFTEN be MANNNY hours late!

But I digress (again :) ) . . .

So this video is a brief “homage” to the joy of “Riding the Rails”, and to the “ghosts” of the old steam locomotive “forefathers” which still haunt the rails, if you simply open your minds enough to see and hear them :) :) . . . . .
