One of the most unusual, daring and elegant airshow 'acts' a couple of decades ago was the pairing of two of RAF Coningsby's denizens, the ADV Tornado and BBMF Spitfire (Mk XIX). Saw this a couple of   more...times and was awe-struck each time. Definitely one of the all time best airshow routines. Wonder if they will do it with the Typhoon and Spitfire. But wouldn't it be sublime if there was an airworthy Hawker Typhoon that could fly with the its modern equivalent? I often wonder whether anyone thought about calling the jet Typhoon II. Maybe that would offend the parnter nations. On that subject the JSF should really be Lightning III maybe? How could they forget the RAF's EE Lightning? I don't.  less

Getting really fed up with not being able to go out. The rain does not seem to be easing at all - must be one of the wettest July's... Anyway, had a play with some RC aircraft and recorded a few flights.   more...Enjoy.  less

Schneider Trophy, or prize or cup, was a prize competition for seaplanes. Announced by Jacques Schneider, a financier, balloonist and aircraft enthusiast, in 1911, it offered a prize of roughly £1,000.   more...The race was held eleven times between 1913 and 1931. It was meant to encourage technical advances in civil aviation but became a contest for pure speed with laps over a triangular course (initially 280 km, later 350 km). The races were very popular and some attracted crowds of over 200,000 spectators.  less

From a while back this is special because you see a rare formation of BBMF fighters, the Lanc and their Dakota.

Very good on the visuals but the narration is all over the place. Here we see some scenes form the Spitfire gathering at IWM Duxford and then an aerobatic routine at Biggin Hill with a Corsair. Interesting   more...contrast in sounds from a mix of Merlin and Griffon engines counterpointed by the PW radial of the Corsair.  less

Airshow - one of the best in the world, RIAT always has something to surprise. This clip kicks off with a rarity to the UK - a Spanish Navy 'Matador' Harrier. We also see the RFA's latets version and   more...then the sadly missed Jaguar and today's top bomber, the Tornado followed by yesterday's - the Lanc flanked by the Spit and Hurricane.  less
