NASA tries to find Space station MIR with the camera on Space Shuttle Discovery but fails to do so in this clip do to all the "debris" floating around...   more... The first object in the video appeared out of nowhere, moved toward the Earth, and although the camera zoomed in, it drastically changed its direction by more than 90 degrees.

The next object appeared out of nowhere, moved upward and to the left, and just as it appeared as though it would have left the field of view, it did not, and instead, it moved leftward, barely keeping itself visible. After some short moments, it turned downward, essentially making a U-turn from its initial direction of motion.

The last one entered as a bright object, where shortly thereafter, it dimmed greatly for several moments, then illuminated brightly as it had entered. A shadow would not cause an object to illuminate from its center outward. Whenever any of these objects appear out of nowhere or illuminate, their illumination begins from their centers and moves outward  less

Obama, has indicated strong support for civil space and aeronautics spending after the removal of the Bush administration. "The very engine of innovation for our nation, investment in research and technology, has been all but eliminated at NASA," said Obama "America needs to renew its commitment to NASA and to provide sustained, stable direction with an honest budget and sufficient resources for success across all of its critical missions: human spaceflight, science, and aeronautics research,” said the candidate. It would cost about $3 billion a year to keep flying the shuttle, according to a recent report by the Congressional Budget Office. NASA currently uses both space shuttles and Soyuz spacecraft to ferry materials and astronauts to and from the International Space Station. If the shuttle is cancelled in 2010, and relations with Russia continue to develop, the US may not be able to participate in the ISS program until its Orion spacecraft is ready in 2015.  less

Eastern Daylight Time, and to land on the Central Asian steppes of Kazakhstan with Garriott at about 11:36 pm. But unlike the last two Soyuz landings, the cosmonauts are confident they'll have an uneventful ride home. The last two Soyuz vehicles to return to Earth - in April and October 2007 - landed in a backup ballistic mode after a mechanical failure prevented the three-segment spacecraft from separating properly. After months of scrutiny, Russian engineers believe a failed explosive bolt to be the cause. "I have no concerns about reentry," Garriott told reporters, adding that he has simulated the extra gravitational loads - which can reach more than eight times Earth's gravity - in a centrifuge on Earth. Garriott paid $30 million dollars for his 10-day flight to the space station under a deal between Russia's Federal Space Agency and the Virginia-based firm Space Adventures. He launched to the station on October 12th with commander Michael Fincke and flight engineer Yury Lonchakov, who are replacing Volkov and Kononenko as the cosmonauts complete their own six-month mission. An Austin, Texas-based computer game developer, Garriott created the successful “Ultima” online computer game series and is the sixth paying visitor to the International Space Station. Garriott is also the son of former NASA astronaut Owen Garriott, who flew aboard the U.S. Skylab space station and shuttle Columbia in the 1970s and 1980s, and plans to greet his son at the landing site.
