CCTV:April 23/09.A machete-wielding robber attempted to rob a southern Indiana convenience store but got more them he bargained for with a tough store clerk. The struggle was all caught on store surveillance   more...tape.

Samuel Brown, a clerk at the Evansville, Ind., Kangaroo Express noticed a suspicious man walk around the counter early Thursday morning.

The suspect, identified by police as 45-year-old Myron Matthews, pulled out a machete knife from his pants and began swinging it around. But the clerk wasn't going to just give in to the robber. Using a stepstool as a defense weapon the clerk starting swinging it at the attacker.

The clerk was able to get the machete away from the attacker and then chase him off.

Matthews was arrested soon after the attempted robbery. Luckily the store clerk just suffered a cut to his hand.  less

A Romanian Mrs Mop who wrestled a crowbar from two crooks and used it to beat them over the head until they fled is to get a bravery award after her efforts were recorded on CCTV.

The 38 year-old woman   more...who had been cleaning at the bar in Suceava, eastern Romania, in the early hours of the morning said: "I heard a noise and when I opened the door I saw two men in the hall with a crowbar.

I grabbed it and started hitting them with it. I got in a few good blows before they ran off."

Police are now hunting the pair using the CCTV images caught on tape.

A spokesman for Suceava police said: "We don't usually encourage have a go heroes but on the tape you can see the thieves will think twice before doing it again."

She was rewarded 1,000 lei.  less
