A company must entice shareholders to invest their money, making "profit" the driving force. Since videos are meant to be seen, the number of views is used to determine the profitability of   more...a hosting site. Negative and positive opinions create conflict and additional views.
The company uses these "view numbers" to explain to the investor, the viability of this site and/or profit potential, even if...they're mostly haters...

That's life in the entertainment business...just ask Paris Hilton.  less
