Sometimes seen as antipsych or antipsychiary or anti-biological psychiatry.
This is a movement made up mostly of ex-mental health consumers and the family members of ex-mental health consumers who feel they have been damaged by psychiatry. These people refer to themselves as psychiatric survivors. There are also several medical and mental health professionals that reject the belief system of biological psychiatry

In this video he discusses the how psychology and psychiatry differ from their approach to depression. Is depression really a chemical imbalance more...in the brain or a psychological problem? Often time people are given antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor or Wellbutrin.
SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are often promoted as correcting chemical imbalances in the brain but there is no proof that depression or mental illness is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain nor is there any proof that antidepressants correct an imbalance. These medications often time have horrible side effects like agitation and sexual dysfunction.
This is a different view of depression.
In this video Dr. Breeding will discuss tips on how to recover from depression, become a more happy person.

Dr. Breeding discusses potential psychological causes of an obsession or a compulsion as well as how more...to discharge negative emotion and love oneself.
Psychiatry often prescribes psychotic medications for obsessions and compulsions. Off label medication are often prescribed for this problem including mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, anxiety medications, antidepressants, etc.
Common OCD medications include Paxil, Prozac, Luxox, Zoloft, Lexapro as well as a number of SSRI antidepressants. Other medications often prescribed but not necessarily approved for OCD by the FDA include, Neurontin, Lamictal, Zyprexas and Risperdal. All of these medications have undesireable side effects and do not address the underlying cause of the psychological disorder. None of these drugs are actual cures.
Dr. Breeding discusses how to address obsessions and compulsions for a psychological model.

The anti-psychiatry movement began way back into the post-1960s era, when configuration of groups and theoretical constructs criticised most of the fundamental assumptions and practices of psychiatry. The influential figures involved in this movement were Michel Foucault, R.D. Laing, and Thomas Szasz.
Some common criticisms were that psychiatry applies medical concepts and tools inappropriately to the mind and society, and it too often treats patients against their will. Furthermore, psychiatry inappropriately excludes other approaches to mental distress/disorder, and its medical and ethical integrity is compromised by financial and professional links with pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies. In addition to these criticisms, it was also argued that psychiatry uses a system of categorical diagnoses (e.g., Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or DSM) which is scientifically or clinically ill-founded, and which stigmatises patients. Last but not least, psychiatry's attitude to patients is too often experienced as simply demeaning and controlling.
This film will show you how psychiatry is exposed, debunked, and opposed. But to agree or disagree, is still up to one's own opinion. What do you think?
Personally, I think Psychiatry is just like Religion and any other ideologies in this world. They are all subjected to manipulation and further abusive justifications of one's own contructed 'truth' in order to get away with self-interests.

Gwen Olsen spent fifteen years as a pharmaceutical sales rep working for such healthcare giants as Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Abbott Laboratories. She enjoyed a successful, fast-paced career until several conscious-altering experiences began awakening her to the dangers lurking in every American medicine cabinet. Her most poignant lessons, however, came as both victim and survivor of life-threatening adverse drug reactions. After leaving pharmaceutical sales in 2000, Gwen worked in the natural foods industry first as an Account Manager for Nature's Way, and then as a Regional Sales Manager for Gaia Herbs. She is currently a writer, speaker, and natural health consultant.
