The Kolkhosnik sank on January 16, 1942. Heading for Halifax to join a convoy, she struck an unknown object near Sambro Island and soon sank. Her crew took to lifeboats and all safely reached the Sambro   more...lighthouse. The cause was first thought to be a torpedo, but no German submarines reported an attack and none were recorded in the area. More likely she was off course and struck one of the ledges aground Sambro. Her wreck was salvaged after the war. Today it attracts divers and underwater photographers, especially for the tanks carried as deck cargo.  less

In 2003, My mother and I went to the Maritimes. These are my photos from Day 1 to Day 5, Quebec to Halifax, including New Brunswick, Peggy's Cove and the Swissair Memorial (for all those photos, see the   more...Swissair Memorial video), and hurricane damage in Halifax and Dartmouth.

I really messed up on the days in the video... The end of the video is actually Day 5, not Day 2.

The Tree Topper roller coaster is at Upper Clements Park here in Nova Scotia. Its a wooden structure and the total ride time is 1 minute. Aw heck, I liked it. Sorry about the grainy video, old camera.
