"Our hearing today has been about two cases, the Tillman case and the
Lynch case, and in both cases, it seems like we have - we say
deceptive - misleading information - it wasn't misleading information, we
have false information that was put out to the American people. Stories
that were fabricated and made up." - Rep. Henry Waxman, Oversight
and Government Reform Chairman.

US Navy Seal Stephen White was Pat Tillman's friend and gave a
eulogy at the May 2004 memorial service. White was put in the position
of unknowingly telling the government's lie about how Pat Tillman
died, "My role as far as at the memorial - it's a horrible thing that
happened with Pat. I'm the guy that told America how he died basically
at that memorial and it was incorrect. That does not sit well with me."

"With tears in their eyes, Pat Tillman's furious family accused the
government yesterday of turning his tragic death by friendly fire into a
heroic fairy tale.

Struggling to contain his anger, Kevin Tillman said the government's
publicity stunt made a mockery of his brother's patriotic decision to
spurn a lucrative NFL contract and enlist in the Army to serve his
country."

"The truth is not always easy to hear but the truth is always more heroic
than the hype," Lynch said. When the story on the street supports the
message, it will be left there by a non-answer. The message is more
important than the truth.

The hearing is also looking at the case of the American football star
-turned-solider Pat Tillman, who died in a friendly fire incident in
Afghanistan in 2004. As with Tillerman, Central Command kept the
story alive by not giving out details. Pat Tillman's relatives were not told
of the true circumstances of his death until five weeks after his funeral.
One witnesses at the Tillman hearings said, "The military misled the
nation."

Spencer and Ashley become Spashley soon enough, but Spencer is still burdened with feelings for her brother's girlfriend. When Spencer admits her feelings for Chelsea, the other girl has no choice but to let her down. Soon enoujgh Spencer decides she's going to move on with Ashley.

In a deal put together by the FDIC, with the blessing of the Treasury Department and the Fed, Citigroup will be acquiring the banking operations of the Charlotte, North Carolina-based Wachovia. With the proposed government $700 billion dollar bailout still up in the air, Citigroup will pay $2.1 billion dollars to take over $700 billion dollars in Wachovia assets. Citi will be assuming $52 billion dollars of Wachovia debt and absorbing $42 billion dollars worth of losses in $312 billion dollars of the bank’s loans. Some big numbers involved no doubt, but the acquisition was a move that will protect the FDIC’s risk of another bank collapse. Wachovia was seized last week by Federal regulators, but the FDIC insists it was a move to protect from another IndyMac or Washington Mutual pitfall. At this point, customers, employees, and vendors all have been assured by the Fed and the FDIC that the transition will be smooth and it will be business as usual during the takeover. As Citigroup assumes the business of Wachovia, the company will sell off $10 billion dollars in common stock to raise capital. Citi joins the pedestal of the banking Big Three, including Bank of America and JP Morgan Chase, who also recently acquired banks in despair.  less

Hiring is projected to be down 50% among financial institutions, and the job market will be very competitive to say the least. With companies scaling back on labor, recruitment efforts have dropped off, as little growth is on the horizon. So how are those exiting academia supposed to start on a career? Answers for some may be obvious. It will take time of course. Wall Street has to reorganize, and those in school must be patient looking for work. Some may not want to look on Wall Street, and opt for corporate finance, which is a safer option. At this time, students should strategize and plan out their careers. Meanwhile, schools are reporting increases in enrollment in MBA programs. Which is a good idea, since it allows students to learn as much as they can and wait out the situation. That is…if they have the time.  less
