"An old soul in a young man's voice" is the headline on the front page of the Los Angeles Times Calendar section. The article is about 26 year old Keaton Simons, whose voice is described as   more...having a "lived-in quality that will echo in our minds and hearts for years to come". Keaton's fascination with music surfaced early. Singing since he could talk and picking up Beethoven on the piano by ear while still in preschool, Keaton finally started his lifetime love affair with the guitar at age 12.

As a 17 year old out of high school, Keaton started thinking about college. He decided on The Evergreen State College, located in Olympia, Washington. The area, which has become known as a fertile breeding ground for music and art, proved perfect to set in motion his initiation into the immense world of music. It was there that Keaton started writing songs. He dove in headfirst, taking on courses ranging from 20th century classical composition to Indonesian gamelan music to jazz and quite a lot in between. Keaton's years at Evergreen not only introduced him to diverse global music but also taught him to incorporate everything into his own sensibilities. Major record labels have accused Keaton of being too diverse to contain.  less

  more...Here you will see our Belly and Samba dancers, they youngest of the Belly Dancers is my niece Fernanda with purple dress she is only 13 years old and with the Samba performers my daughter Claudia that looks a lot like me when I was young dressed in blue.
It is kind of sad for me to work with my studio’s clips and pictures but at the same time brings back good memories.

"Father and Son" is a popular song written and originally performed by British singer Cat Stevens on his 1970 album Tea for the Tillerman.
The song, whose music is soft but with a lilting dynamicism,   more...frames an exchange between a father not understanding a son's desire to break away and shape a new life, and the son who cannot really explain himself but knows what he must do, to echo this Stevens sings in a deeper register for the Father parts, whilst using a higher, more emotive one for the son parts.  less

This is my parody of the TV Show theme "Rawhide!". AT the time I performed this I was a member of a local improvisational comedy troupe called the Time' Squares. I would perform a couple of   more...song parodies during each show we did just to give the other Squares a break. We originated in a New York-style deli-restaurant called Chompie's, so the manager who founded our group wanted NYC-flavored material. I have never been in New York, but I know that problems with taxis are a running joke there. I waas also somewhat enamored of the Blues Brothers rendition of "Rawhide!" in their movie. Somehow those two things collided like chocolate and peanut butter, and this parody was born. I did my own Karaoke arrangement on my synthesizers and created the cab fronts out of foamcore for the "cabbies".  less

This video documents part of my journey from work to the college in London where I take my jazz improv classes. Tonight was my final jazz performance for the year. I think this was my best performance   more...out of the three we did over the past 9 months.

As band leader for this performance I chose and arranged this piece. There were a few stuff-ups with the drummer not being familiar with the arrangement (he wasn't at the practice so its understandable).

Anyway hope you guys enjoy the extra glimpse into London life (as requested ;)) and this final jazz performance.  less
