The Air Line Pilots Association has negotiated a tentative employment agreement with Fort Worth, Texas-based AMR Corp., parent of American Eagle Airlines.

The agreement   more...will amend the union’s 16-year contract with American Eagle,
negotiated in 1997. The union represents 2,800 American Eagle pilots.

The deal will likely ensure more take-home pay for many pilots, by improving such items as the minimum value of a workday and provisions for vacation payout.

Union chairman Herb Mark stated, “Our negotiators were asked to bring us an agreement that increases quality of life wherever possible but includes no concessions. This tentative agreement accomplishes that mission….”

American Eagle is the world’s largest regional airline system, operating over 1,800 flights a day, and serving 159 cities across the USA, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. It was established in 1984.  less

Given the current state of the economy, many wonder if their employer will be able give them a raise next year.

To answer their question, yes. The only problem, given a current 5% rate of inflation…it   more...might not be enough.

According to a study conducted by Watson Wyatt Worldwide, 33% of the companies they surveyed still plan on allocating merit increases in 2009.

The report shows that rank-and-file workers can look forward to base pay increases of 3.5% next year (the same amount given this year).

The company also concluded that high performers will be rewarded for their hard work at a rate of 4.4%

So while many companies are being forced to their work force, restructure, and shrink expenses, those still working can breath a sigh of relief. Next year, they should get a raise.
