Dr. John Breeding, Ph.D. Psychologist, talks about depression. In this video he discusses the how psychology and psychiatry differ from their approach to depression. Is depression really a chemical imbalance   more...in the brain or a psychological problem? Often time people are given antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor or Wellbutrin.

SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are often promoted as correcting chemical imbalances in the brain but there is no proof that depression or mental illness is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain nor is there any proof that antidepressants correct an imbalance. These medications often time have horrible side effects like agitation and sexual dysfunction.

This is a different view of depression.

In this video Dr. Breeding will discuss tips on how to recover from depression, become a more happy person.

Depression is all consuming.

Dr. John Breeding, Ph.D. psychologist discusses what is termed obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD.

Dr. Breeding discusses potential psychological causes of an obsession or a compulsion as well as how   more...to discharge negative emotion and love oneself.

Psychiatry often prescribes psychotic medications for obsessions and compulsions. Off label medication are often prescribed for this problem including mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, anxiety medications, antidepressants, etc.

Common OCD medications include Paxil, Prozac, Luxox, Zoloft, Lexapro as well as a number of SSRI antidepressants. Other medications often prescribed but not necessarily approved for OCD by the FDA include, Neurontin, Lamictal, Zyprexas and Risperdal. All of these medications have undesireable side effects and do not address the underlying cause of the psychological disorder. None of these drugs are actual cures.

Dr. Breeding discusses how to address obsessions and compulsions for a psychological model.

what it's like to live with mental illness.

As a lot of you know, Sadie started having issues gettin up almost a month ago. On her 20th and last day of anti inflammatories she got sick. On sunday she was worse, we took her to the emergency clinic   more...where they found her temp high. they gave her antibiotics, 1 liter of fluid, and blood tests. On Monday morning I got the results of the blood work. Her calcium was very high and they felt it was solidifying thus causing her to have issues getting up. She was also in full renal failure. They felt there may be a tumor in her kidneys. We could have taken her to the specialists in the city who would put her on 24 hour fluids, do numerous tests. After considering this option, we decided to lay Sadie to rest instead. If they were able to keep her alive for a short while, she would never walk again because of the calcium formed in her joints and there is no cure for that. Sadie passed peacefully last night July 28th, 2008 at the age of 7 and a half. She was here for too short of a time. I would have done anything if only they could have saved her life without tubes and bottles and medicine. Sadie was our pretty girl, our protector, our guardian. She won our hearts from the moment we saw her. She had such personality and charisma, she will be dearly missed each and every day from now until eternity. I have faith that she is in heaven with my son Randy who passed away 23 years ago on July 28th, 1985. I know when she meets him he will love her just as much as we did. We love you Sadie, rest in peace my sweet girl. Until we meet again.  less

I was bored in the exam room at the clinic and so I pulled out the camera and filmed a bit.

The system for keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill is non-existent, the gun industry gets their way time and time again, all they care about is sales. Why don't the ATF and the States coordinate   more...their activities and information to make sure that people who have been diagnosed as mental incompetent, are not allowed to get their hands on deadly weapons? Why don't we look at mental illness as a real crisis that needs to be taken seriously? The truth is that this tragedy COULD and SHOULD have been prevented.  less
