 | | Protocol 04:07I must admit, when I was offered Gordon Lightfoot's "Protocol", and actually listened to it, it scared me to death! So much history had to be packed into such a short timeframe, that I avoided more...it for some time before finally getting down to it. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary, defines Protocol as "a code prescribing strict adherence to correct etiquette and precedence (as in diplomatic exchange and in the military services). Gordon Lightfoot's "Protocol" is a lesson in history. Coal mining wasn't something that I knew anything about, but as I searched more...for the photographs used in this vistory, I wanted to know more. This information was current in 2003: 1.The United States produces about 35%, or 1 billion tons, of the world's coal supply—more than any other country produces. 2.The average coal miner is 45 years old and has 20 years of experience. 3.Coal generates more than half of the electricity used in the United States. 4.Each person in the United States uses 3.8 tons of coal each year. 5.U.S. coal deposits contain more energy than that of all the world's oil reserves. 6.The United States has more than a 250-year supply of coal, if it continues using coal at the same rate at which it uses coal today (2003). less Tags: boss man gordon lightfoot coal miner mines lightfoot tribute team 4lanestudios stonewallstudios mylady Category: People Views: 224 Comments: 37 Added: Mar 7, 08 By: MyLady | | | | | Sometimes I Wish 03:43My initial thought on this song was that it would be incredibly hard to portrait, so I started the search for "wishing" things -- wells, wishbones, dandylions gone to seed... Even I should know, when it ain't my day there is no other way. -Instrumental- I begin to wake up to, how wrong it was to cling to you Sometimes I wish, to hold you to my heart, 'Cause I can't keep us apart. Forgiving you, Was the easiest thing that I ever could do. Everywhere I go, there is no one I know. Even I can see, it's too late now to believe in a vow. -Instrumental- As I wander I return, to days gone by there's much to be learned Sometimes I wish, that miracles could be. The power of the sense of smell… Who hasn’t been transported back to a specific place and time just by the more...scent of something – fresh cut grass, home baking, perfume? A woman’s fragrance is carefully chosen to be memorable. Gordon Lightfoot attests to that with this beautiful song. Affair On 8th Avenue (Back Here On Earth) 3:39 The perfume that she wore was from some little store On the down side of town But it lingered on long after she'd gone I remember it well And our fingers entwined like ribbons of light And we came through a doorway somewhere in the night Her long flowing hair came softly undone And it lay all around And she brushed it down as I stood by her side In the warmth of her love And she showed me her treasures of paper and tin And we played a game only she could win And she told me a riddle I'll never forget Then left with the answer I've never found yet How long, said she, can a moment like this Belong to someone What's wrong, what is right, when to live or to die We must almost be born So if you should ask me what secrets I hide I'm only your lover, don't make me decide The perfume that she wore was from some little store On the down side of town But it lingered on long after she'd gone I remember it well And she showed me her treasures of paper and tin And we played a game only she could win And our fingers entwined like ribbons of light And we came through a doorway somewhere in the night Link For online discussions about Gordon Lightfoot, his music and related topics http://www.corfid.com/ Link to Gordon Lightfoot website maintained by Wayne Francis http://www.lightfoot.ca/ Link to buy Gordon Lightfoot CD's http://www.bestprices.com/cgi-bin/vli... less Tags: affair on 8th avenue gordon lightfoot tribute team 4lanestudios mylady stonewallstudios london perfume Category: Music Views: 311 Comments: 43 Added: Aug 14, 08 By: MyLady | | | | | Rainy Day People by Jeff Poole gemcityjeff 02:49Bringing some of the good old good ones back! Lightfoot’s lyrics for “Whisper My Name” led me to the pioneers – covered wagons, horseback, building a life from scratch in the “wilds” of North America. Pioneer women had to be strong, more...and independent, to be able to carry on with the day-to-day toils of a settler’s life – especially if her husband was lured away by the quest for what seemed like easy money to be made in the Gold Rush days, panning and mining for gold. But, within every cloud is a silver lining, and these women, at a late stage of their lives, fought for what they wanted and won - a true testament to their spirit that needed some recognition. You must admit that there’s nothing quite as magical as a web when it’s intricacies are highlighted with the more...sunlight and the morning dew – except, or course, the web of Love. Spin, Spin (Sunday Concert Plus) 2:29 So fine, so fine the web you spin, I come too close and I'm caught again! In a web of wild design, I do not know what fate is mine! All the day sit and spin, You spin your web and you draw me in. Spin, spin, spin, spin! Well my daddy said when I was young, "Beware the web of love, my son, To be in love is to be insane, Make an old man groan, a young man pain!" All the day, sit and spin, You spin your web and you draw me in. Spin, spin, spin, spin! Then I did grow and the time did fly, Many a true love passed me by. And then you came like a blinding storm, I landed in your web so warm, All the day, sit and spin, You spin your web and you draw me in. Spin, spin, spin, spin! So fine, so fine the web you spin, I come too close and I'm caught again! In a web of wild desire, And I cannot control the fire! All the day sit and spin, You spin your web and you draw me in. All the day sit and spin, You spin your web and you draw me in. Spin, spin, spin, spin! Spin, spin, spin, spin! This mournful lament from Gordon Lightfoot has always brought to my mind the soldiers more...of WW1 -- so far away, not knowing where or when the end will come, and longing for home. This one is for all of our veterans. A special “thank you” goes to my good friend in the Netherlands who provided many of these photos from his own collection. Bells Of The Evening (Cold On The Shoulder) 3:56 Bells of the evening, O sing to my love Tell her I miss her, my own turtledove The streets of the old town are covered with rain I think I might never know true love again I'm lost with no road signs to guide me A slave to my whiskey and dreams Bells of the evening, O bells that I love I've got some feelings I long to be rid of I'm not one to ramble; I'm not one to boast Though I had one lover more lovely than most She was a country girl born to be free Who took to the city by chance there to find me Bells of the evening go pealin' I'm down here listenin' to you Bells of the evening, O bells of the sea Tell her that I love her, that I'm lost and so lonely Bells of the evening, your sweet Sunday sound Reminds me of the redwoods and moss covered ground So if I should wander on back to the coast Tell her to remember it's her I need the most I'm caught by the minstrel's misfortune Of being forever displaced Bells of the evening, O bells of the sea Tell her that I love her; that I'm lost I'm so lonely less Tags: remembrance day november 11 gordon lightfoot bells of the evening soldiers ww1 4lanestudios mylady stonewallstudios lightfoot tribute team Category: News Views: 240 Comments: 34 Added: Nov 2, 08 By: MyLady | | | | | On Susans Floor 03:46This is one of a few songs that Gordon Lightfoot recorded but did not write. This song is also based on fact. "Susan" was Susan Brewer, a lady who opened her home to some of the "outlaw" more...artists of the 60's. On Susan's Floor (Don Quixote) 2:55 Like crippled ships that made it Through a storm and finally reached a quiet shore The homeless found a home on Susan's floor Didn't feel so cold and tired Stretched out before her fire Rollin' smokes and drinkin' up her wine And I remember candlelight And singing 'til we could not sing no more Then fallin' warm asleep on Susan's floor Well now that my song is sweeter I think I'd like to greet her And thank her for the favors that she gave A stranger I came My head bowed in the rain to her door I sat and sang my songs on Susan's floor In the mornin' I'd go on Buyin' kingdoms with my songs Knowin' I'd be back in just a while Warm in the sunlight of her smile Well lots of time and songs have passed I catch myself just looking back Reliving all the wonder of those nights That's where I'd be today If I had only stayed one night more And sang another song on Susan's floor Like crippled ships that made it Through a storm and finally reached a quiet shore The homeless found a home on Susan's floor Link for online discussions about Gordon Lightfoot, his music and related topics http://www.corfid.com/ Link to Gordon Lightfoot website maintained by Wayne Francis http://www.lightfoot.ca/ Link to buy Gordon Lightfoot CD's http://www.bestprices.com/cgi-bin/vli... less Tags: on susans floor gordon lightfoot tribute team 4lanestudios stonewallstudios mylady waylon jennings willie nelson roger miller kris kristofferson nashville Category: People Views: 257 Comments: 21 Added: Aug 19, 08 By: MyLady | | | | | The House You Live In 02:56"As is the case with so many of Gordon Lightfoot's songs, this one could have many interpretations.
