This is the first part of several taken from our local NBC Newscenter10 TV Station documentary called Floodwatch '94. It's what they called the 500 year flood (meaning a flood like this usually only happens   more...once in 500 years) that occured here where I live in Albany, GA and the surronding areas in July 1994. I didn't get flooded out but my older sister Lisa and her family lived by the Kinchafoonee Creek and were awoken and evacuated at around 3 AM. Very scary indeed! Their house was flooded with about 4 feet of water. If you have time to watch, this series of videos contains very interesting footage (there are 7 videos, the first 5 at about 10 minutes each and the last 2 over 17 minutes a piece for the whole documentary). In this part, among other things, you'll see President Bill Clinton (bringing $60 million in aid), Surgeon General   more...Jocelyn Elders, Governor Zell Miller and Senator Paul Coverdell visit Albany, farmers and crops flooded out, the flood waters receding, women having babies in shelters, baseball helping kids, FEMA assistance, people from out of state coming to help flood victims and people returning to their homes to find devastation. This part has evacuations, people being rescued, bridge closings, fight to save hospital, Albany State College (now Albany State University) and Civic Center, all from July 7th and 8th. I didn't get flooded out but my older sister Lisa and her family lived by the Kinchafoonee Creek and were awoken and evacuated at around 3 AM. Very scary indeed!
