The AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour is arriving in cities nationwide as part of a 3,000-community, two-year national mobile health screening tour with a goal of providing more than $60 million worth of free   more...health screenings. The tour aims to administer more than 2.5 million free screenings and is comprised of nine custom-equipped buses with dedicated staffs of Walgreens trained medical technicians. This is the fifth year Walgreens has committed to providing free health screenings through a traveling health screening campaign.

A survey shows that more than half of large US employers offer wellness programs like gym memberships and weight loss assistance to their workers, according to Reuters. The survey from MetLife, the largest   more...life insurer in the US, found that 70 percent of employers who offer wellness programs saw them as a "very important tool for employee retention." . One thousand, three hundred and eighty full-time employees and 1,652 managers were surveyed across mix of industries and geographic regions, MetLife said. Fifty-seven percent of employers with 500 or more workers provide some sort of wellness program such as smoking cessation, weight management, an exercise plan or cancer screening. Only 16 percent of smaller employers do, the survey found. And about four out of five employers with wellness programs add incentives, with 40 percent offering gym memberships, 36 percent awarding gifts or prizes and 27 percent offering a discounted employee contribution to medical plans. Only nine percent of employers impose financial penalties on employees who do not meet wellness guidelines, a percentage that has remained steady for two years. New York City-based MetLife carries $3.3 trillion in policies.  less

About 3 percent of recruiters are making social networking sites their primary recruiting source. Thirty-three percent of HR executives spend an average of one hour a week on social networking sites for recruiting-related purposes, while 15 percent spend five hours. The study concluded that negative information on an applicant's profile has a greater impact on hiring decisions than positive information. The number one reason why employers use social networking sites is to recruit applicants who might not be looking for a job. The survey also showed that recruiters found social networking sites most effective in recruiting non-management and middle-management positions. Companies that don't use social networking sites noted a lack of staff time and questions about credibility as the top two reasons.  less
