I have written an environmental musical which has taken many years to complete. This is one of the songs from my musical entitled 'Littleoake'.

Brief overview of an environmental hazard
Living around a gas station poses a health risk.

Taking the corporations & government before the court of public opinion
Gasoline tanks leaching into the ground   more...pose a major health risk
High density of low wage & low income people live in or around highly toxic areas


Benzene exposure can negatively impact one's health.
High levels of benzene over prolonged periods can result in death.
Low levels can cause drowsiness, dizziness, rapid heart rate, tremors, confusion, and headache. High levels of benzene ingested or inhaled through food or air may cause vomiting, irritation of the esophagus and stomach, dizziness, sleepiness, convulsions, rapid heart rate, lung and eye irritation, impaired immune system and death.
Benzene can cause damage to the bone marrow and is a known cancer- causing agent
Children are often at greater risks due to their immature immune system and often play around the contaminated sites.
Hydrocarbons are another contaminant contained in gasoline.
Current legalization in Canada is very weak and rarely enforced.
The government needs to create tougher standards and ensure that corporatations are forced to clean up and remove the source of contaminates.
Healthcare providers need to monitor this situation to determine the risk factor.

A study has been conducted over the course of a two year period to determine the risk factors and symptoms this has on people in an area highly contaminated
Frequent monitoring of ground water, soil and air samples should be conducted on a regular basis by an independent body
Currently this testing is conducted by the companies responsible and the results are not available to the general public

In terms of its fabrication, a keris is welded from various different metals that fall into two groups, ie; metal derived from the earth and metal derived from the atmosphere. Materials from the atmosphere means meteor and asteroid.

Welding certain kinds of metals into one blade causes them to form patterns, known locally as pamor or damascene - which is the most striking feature of the kris. Iron gives the keris its body, and the steel its cutting edge and the nickel that gives the blade its pamor. The pamor is brought out and made visible through a process of washing the finished blade in a solution of arsenic and limejuice. Pamor symbolizes certain hopes of good and bad.

Keris does not only act as a weapon but also as a family heirlooms and status symbols. To recognize whether a keris is suitable to be conserved as an heirloom, an expert will look at it from three aspects: condition, material and style, Some consider keris to be works of art.
