For instance, according to my staff, I'm not supposed to write anything without mentioning that our grassroots campaign needs the support of great progressives like YOU and asking you to click here and chip in a few bucks so I can take on the Republican attack machine. See? That kind of thing totally distracts the reader from my point, which is this: If you ever wonder whether we really need public financing of elections in this country, try running for office. You might think I spend most of my time kissing babies or shaking hands or having serious policy debates in which my sparkling wit and superior knowledge of the issues combine to sweep audiences off their feet. But no. I spend most of my time doing this. (picture of Al on the phone shlubbing for money) That's me during "call time," which is basically what candidates for public office do all day. The guy on the right is Kris, my call time manager. It's his job to sit with me for hours at a time and make sure I'm "making the ask" on every call. For instance, he's currently pacing behind me reminding me to make another "ask" in here. Here it is, Kris: please click here and give me money. Okay? While I'm sitting there with Kris, I often think about how badly we need public financing of elections in this country. We need it because I should be out talking to Minnesotans about the issues that matter to their families. We need it so that I can spend my days meeting with policy experts and reading up on legislation and working with progressives all over the state to build a movement that can take on Norm Coleman next fall. And we need it because members of Congress are too beholden to special interests, and that costs taxpayers, big time. The Medicare Part D prescription drug bill, which might be the most corrupt piece of legislation in history, was a huge giveaway of taxpayer funds to the big pharmaceutical companies. The 2005 energy bill handed billions of dollars of our money to big oil companies, essentially just for the hell of it. Did the Republican majority pass those bills out of the goodness of their hearts? Of course not. They passed them because they rely on huge PAC checks from these big corporate interests to fund television commercials calling Democrats "big spenders." Let me select a totally random example: Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman (R-PHARMA). In the first fundraising quarter this year, he raised around $1.5 million. About a third of that came from PACs -- tobacco, coal, insurance, etc. Over the course of his career, he's taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from Big Oil and Big Pharma. And, of course, he voted in favor of that horrible drug bill and that horrible energy bill. I'm doing things a little differently. In my first fundraising quarter (which was really only 45 days since I announced on February 14), I raised around $1.35 million. But instead of relying on PACs, I relied mostly on small contributions from over 10,000 donors (over 90 percent of whom gave less than $100), more than twice as many as Coleman. (I should point out that you can help, too, by clicking here. See, I'm learning!) But even though thousands of people have already helped without my having to call them, I still spend a lot of time on the phone. Don't get me wrong -- I don't mind talking to people about my campaign and what I'd do in the Senate to push for universal health care, stem cell research, and an end to the war in Iraq. At the debate, Kucinich confirmed what MacLaine wrote in her new book, "Sage-ing while Age-ing," that he saw a UFO on a visit to her home. The entire exchange has led to a sidelight in the presidential race, pitting UFO believers against UFO deniers.
MacLaine said that she became fascinated with UFOs when she was 18 and spotted the onjects above the White House and the Capitol.
"It had a tremendous effect on me," she said.

Published on Friday, July 13, 2007 by ABC News Caught on Tape: Clinton to Edwards ‘Our Guys Should more...Talk’ by Teddy Davis / Lindsey Ellerson ABC News’ Teddy Davis and Lindsey Ellerson Report: Democratic rivals Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and former Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., were caught on tape Thursday privately conferring and agreeing to have their campaigns collaborate.
“Our guys should talk,” Clinton said to Edwards.
The former first lady’s remarks were picked up by an open microphone following a Democratic presidential candidates forum held at the annual NAACP convention.
During the event, which took place in Detroit, long-shot Democratic presidential candidate Mike Gravel ripped into several of his top-tier rivals for authorizing the use of force in Iraq in 2002.
“The majority of the people on this dais voted for the war,” said Gravel. “If they got wisdom now, where were they then?”
Both Clinton and Edwards voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq in 2002.
Gravel, who is a former Democratic senator from Alaska, also went after the record compiled by Clinton’s husband on trade.
“Where do you think NAFTA came from?” asked Gravel. “From the Trinity? It came from a Democratic administration. That’s where it came from. We ought to recognize that. And not accept all this stuff…”
Following Gravel’s NAFTA remarks, the moderator told the audience that none of the Democratic candidates would receive a chance to respond because of a previously agreed upon format.
“I’m sure all the candidates would like to respond to that,” said CBS’ Russ Mitchell, one of the event moderators. “Because this is classified as a forum, and not a debate, all the candidates agreed upon there would be no chance for that this afternoon.”
The private discussion between Clinton and Edwards began when the former senator walked over to the former first lady to shake hands at the conclusion of the forum. The candidates were not aware that the microphone that Clinton was wearing was still transmitting sound.
“We’ve got to talk because they, they are, just being trivialized,” Clinton said to Edwards.
“They are not serious,” Edwards responded.
“No,” Clinton said in agreement. “You know, I think there was an effort by our campaigns to do that. We got somehow, you know, detoured. But we’ve got to get back to that . . .”
Due to organ music and announcements that were being made in the background, the entirety of the conversation is not audible.
ABC News has asked both campaigns what the two candidates have agreed to work on together and will update this post with their responses. less Tags: dennis kucinich presidential election 2007 clinton edwards democratic sen hillary clinton sen john edwards candidates naacp convention detroit presidential candidate mike gravel iraq 2002 war gravel nafta america debate senator abc news politics Category: News Views: 67 Comments: 1 Added: Jul 13, 07 By: MikeNobody | | | | | Obama Hillary McCain Ron Paul Huckabee Whos Best CFR 12 09:58The media must focus on the personalities of the candidates, because of their lack of representation of Americans. All presidential candidates are pro war and pro big government, are CFR and AIPAC members, more...except for Ron Paul, who represents Americans, which the CFR and media do not, who is censored or given minimal coverage so that people will not hear of him, and against whom intensive voter fraud has taken place.
In addition to not being controlled by the media, another reason for a person to not largely or solely base their decision on who they perceive to be popular, is to prevent voting for someone who is popular but unknowingly bad (Bush for example). The media can and do make whomever they want to seem the most popular. (e.g. Bush in 2000, now in 2008 the whole lineup of traitorous warmongers). They don't report on millions of people, they determine how millions of people will act. In other words the viewers depend on the media, not vice versa. For some reason, Ron Paul, who represents Americans, isn't given coverage by the media, who determine, not report on, which candidates are the most popular. Ron Paul would do all of the following, whereas none of the other candidates would do any of the following:
No War in Iraq No War on Drugs No income tax / IRS / Federal Reserve Limited Government No government overspending which the income tax pays for No subtle removal of human / constitutional rights

I AM SO EFFIN’ PISSED! I cannot believe that these gutless Democrats, a party that I have supported faithfully with MY time, MY sweat, and MY money, is rolling over for President Bush and giving him license to TRASH the Constitution! Below are listed the members of the Democratic party who have betrayed OUR TRUST and they should be opposed in the next Democratic primary. They work for us! We didn’t send then to Washington D.C. to ‘Go Along’ with this War Criminal President! The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act or (FISA) was a system that allowed a President to use all the resources that he or she needed to combat terrorism, with a judge overseeing the program and issuing a WARRANT. The President could have listened in on who-ever he wanted to for 3 days but it was required that he GET a WARRANT from a FISA JUDGE! It is the only oversight that we had on this out-of-control- President and it created a paper trail that guaranteed that the Presidnet WAS NOT listening in on AMERICAN CITIZEN’S PHONE CONVERSATIONS AND VIOLATING OUR RIGHT TO PRIVACY AS PROVIDED FOR IN THE BILL OF RIGHTS! President Bush has been illegally wiretapping from 2001 to the present, instead of bringing charges of impeachment for high crimes, THESE Democratic party member voted to GIVE President Bush the law that he wanted, that retroactively made all of his domestic spying crimes LEGAL. I expect this treachery from the Bush administration, but to have MY Democratic Senators and Congressmen CAVE IN TO THIS PRESIDENT’S ILLEGAL DEMANDS TO REWRITE THE FISA LAW IS INEXCUSABLE! These are the 16 Democratic Senators who supported President Bush’s RAPING of the Bill of Rights. They voted FOR Bush’s amendments to the FISA law.
1) Evan Bayh- Jr Senator from Indiana 2) Tom Carper- Jr Senator from Delaware 3) Bob Casey- Jr Senator from Pennsylvania 4) Kent Conrad- Sr Senator from North Dakota 5) Dianne Feinstein- Sr Senator from California 6) Daniel Inouye- Sr Senator from Hawaii 7) Amy Klobuchar- Jr Senator from Minnesota 8) Mary Landrieu- Sr Senator from Louisiana 9) Blanche Lincoln- Sr Senator from Arkansas 10) Claire McCaskill- Jr Senator from Missouri 11) Barbara Mikulski- Sr Senator from Maryland 12) Bill Nelson- Sr Senator from Florida 13) Ben Nelson- Jr Senator from Nebraska 14) Mark Pryor- Jr Senator from Arkansas 15) Ken Salazar- Jr Senator from Colorado 16) Jim Webb- Jr Senator from Virginia
Every Republican Senator who voted, voted in favor of Bush’s amendments to the FISA law. These are the 41 Democratic Party House of Representatives, these Congressmen and women voted to let President Bush subvert the RULE OF LAW!
