Fats Domino is back, by popular request! This is a film of driving through villages, woods and farmland on a few stretches of the A36 in Wiltshire, England, from just outside Salisbury to the roundabout   more...at the start of the Warminster bypass. Filmed on Easter Day 2007. Note the ‘ten-to-two’ position of hands on the steering wheel! But there’s no fancy driving here - it’s all legal, keeping more or less to the speed limits. And anyone from the US might be interested to see how smoothly traffic can flow around a roundabout junction. Driving in California this is not! Forget blue skies and sunshine. This is motoring in the UK in the wettest , most miserable June since records began. What you see here is a very wet stretch of the M25,   more...the London orbital motorway. We’re travelling north west towards Heathrow, clockwise, from soon after the junction with the M23. The speed limit is 70mph and I was trying to more or less keep to it.  less

This is a higher-resolution vid to replace the previous one which I have now deleted. Early Sunday morning. Come for a great drive! See the amazing Clifton Suspension Bridge, high up in the rocky Avon   more...Gorge. Drive under the bridge, and drive over it. All in one take, in real time. We approach Bristol down the fast Long Ashton bypass; go along Brunel Way with a great view of the Suspension Bridge and the Avon Gorge; drive across the Plimsoll swing bridge; drive down onto the Portway and under the bridge, through the little tunnel. The traffic lights change to green as we approach and we go up twisty Bridge Valley Road, turn right into Clifton Down and right again - to the bridge. Drop 50 pence into the basket and a slow crossing (max 25mph). Look out for the joggers and the people clearing rubbish on the Downs.  less

Forget London, New York, LA, Paris, Berlin etc! Come for a drive up Muller Road, a busy suburban road in Bristol. See the semi-detached and terraced houses! The traffic and the parked cars! I hope the audio works this time! This is a drive through part of Bristol, in typical nightmare conditions. Well, I enjoy the challenge really. We go up Park Street, around The Triangle, past the imposing   more...facade of the Victoria Rooms, stop for someone on the zebra crossing, and go under the plane trees and on up Whiteladies Road. Various driving hazards include random, scurrying pedestrians, crazy parking, someone performing a bizarre right turn (lucky I spotted him), and a delivery lorry completely blocking the way. Sit back and enjoy the drive. Oh, don't forget, we drive on the left in the UK.  less

We're travelling north-east on the M5 motorway and turning off at junction 19. This stretch of the M5 was built onto the side of the Gordano Valley. I-Spy the south-westbound lanes, getting higher and   more...higher until they're some forty feet above us. As we drive uphill, there's an extra, fourth lane on the far right, to let faster traffic get past the slower traffic that's on the left. I-Spy where this lane comes to an end. It's clearly and repeatedly signed, but you'll see skid marks where the blind, the careless and the unwary have been caught out.
I-Spy how well everyone drives and how no-one gets blocked. Slower traffic goes at around 60mph on the left; traffic at the legal maximum of 70mph in the middle lane; and in the outside lane traffic often goes at eighty-ninety.
I-Spy a broken-down car on the hard shoulder, on the far left. I-Spy a lorry-load of hay, going the other way.
If you're not familiar with British motorways - as we come down the hill towards Avonmouth, I-Spy the signs for the junction one mile ahead, then again at half a mile. And on the left, I-Spy the helpful "\\\", "\\", and "\" countdown markers: 300, then 200, then 100 yards before the exit.
Ten points for each thing you spot. But then, who's counting?
