Larry Dumlao, from the 56th Rescue Squadron's pararescue team in Iceland, sent in this video to grouchymedia.com. He filmed, edited, and stared in. It features video he shot using his home video camera   more...and a helmet-cam from helmetcamera.com. He made it in between moving from Iceland to Virgina, and now teaches personnel recovery operations and training for the DoD.

Bombs exploded all around them, but one man was too brave or too crazy to be afraid. The weather-beaten   more...old gunny stood and yelled something to his men that would be written in history books for years to come: "Come on, you sons of bitches! Do you want to live forever?!"

That crazy old man was Gunnery Sgt. Dan Daley, and he was screaming to U.S. Marines in an area of France then known as Belleau Wood. It was July 1917. German forces had secured the woods and were entrenched so deeply that the French thought an act of God was the only thing that would get them out.

The Marines, under Daley's leadership, stormed German positions and drove them from their fortifications, retaking the area. German troops later said the Marines fought like madmen, calling them Teufel hunden, German for "hell hounds" or "devil dogs." The Marines have since carried the German insult and proudly still call one another "devil dog."

For his heroism, Daley received his second medal of honor. The French bestowed a third Croix de Guerre upon the Marines of the 5th and 6th Marine regiments and renamed Belleau Wood "The Woods of the Marine Brigade." In honor of Marine efforts in France, the French authorized the Fouragere (a golden-braided cord worn across the chest) be worn by Marines of the 5th and 6th regiments, and some do to this day.
