The Moorish caves of the small mountain village of Bocairent (Valencian community in Spain), where a rock face houses some 56 man made caves that date back to   more...medieval times and that are all interlinked inside though a series of openings in the rock. This piece of music, “Memories of Alhambra” by Francisco Tarrega, is played here by Canadian, Manfred Harter, whom I have had the pleasure to meet and who has played many wonderful arrangements for me.   more... I knew nothing of the Alhambra, but as was the case with a previous piece of Manfred’s music, “Mystery of Tikal”, I wanted to know what it was that attracted him to this piece.
The Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex in southern Spain. It sits on a hilly terrace on the southeastern border of the city of Granada. Once the residence of the Muslim kings of Granada and their court, it was designed to reflect the very beauty of Paradise itself, with its gardens, fountains, streams, palace, and a mosque, all inside a fortress wall. It is now one of Spain's major tourist attractions and on my "Bucket List" -- those special things to see or do before I die. ;)  less

My friend Rafa and I take you with us on our visit to a near by cave where I live. I found the cave with other friends, at the very top of the mountain behind   more...where I live, about 10 years ago. We were very lucky to find it in the first place, as the cave has a small entrance and is covered by vegetation, only one of us noticed it out of the corner of his eyes, the rest of us had walked right past it! When we entered it for the first time we found a big surprise inside that I will tell you about in the video ;-) Enjoy \^^/  less

"Flamenco" came to be synonymous   more...with "gitano" (gypsy) in Spanish Romany Argot.

Between 800 and 900 A.D., a large exodus of people occurred from the Punjabi region of India. These people are believed to be members of the Untouchables, a group within the Indian caste system comprised of animal traders and trainers, acrobats, dancers, musicians, palmists and metalworkers. These nomadic groups, generally referred to as Roman and/or gypsies, divided into two major migratory routes, the most traceable moving west across Asia and the European continent, including Spain. The first recorded account of Spanish Gitanos "Beticos" dates from 1447 in Barcelona.
During the Inquisition of the Reconquista, even this tolerance ended while gypsies from all over Spain were herded into "gitanerias" or ghettos. However unjust and cruel, this persecution and isolation was the very influence that safeguarded the purity of their music and dance within the family group. Finally, in 1782, the Leniency Edict of Charles III restored some measure of freedom to the Spanish gypsy and allowed this music and dance to be presented to and adopted by the general population of Spain. This resulted in a period of great exploration and evolution within the art form, which continues to this day.  less
