The Mogadishu Mile was a long mile run by U.S. Rangers and Delta Force from the helicopter crash site to the Pakistani Stadium during the Battle of Mogadishu on October 4, 1993 part of Task Force Ranger   more...in an attempt to overthrow Mohamed Farrah Aidid. Originally they were supposed to take cover by running along side the convoy of Humvees and armoured personnel carriers, however when the convoy outpaced them they were forced to run without support and with very little ammunition while under heavy fire coming from all directions.  less

I love a small town agricultural fair! From the smell of the hay and its varied inhabitants, the chatter of exhibitors getting their prized livestock ready for the ring, the noise of the midway rides   more...and games, to the wasps vying for my cotton candy, I can’t think of anything not to like! Unfortunately the expansion of our cities has engulfed many of these communities and country fairs are diminishing. Enjoy my view of one of southern Ontario’s community fairs.

For the record, the Heavy Horse Pull was won by “Charlie and Ike”. With a combined weight somewhere under 3400 pounds, they successfully pulled the sled 15 feet. The sled and its concrete contents weighed 9000 pounds! – more than double the weight of these well-trained athletes. Check out their cleats!  less

<b>5 World Trade Center</b>
The September 11th Attack

WTC 5 was a nine-story building that stood east of the North Tower (WTC 1). The building had two dozen tenants, with its fourth through   more...ninth floors being occupied almost entirely by Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse First Boston, and government agencies.

<b>Evacuation</b>
Apparently the evacuation of Building 5 began shortly after the North Tower was hit. The South Tower crash deposited some remains of Flight 175's hull on the roof of WTC 5, according to FEMA's Report.

<b>Damage</b>
WTC 5 was severely damaged by fallout from the destruction of the Towers. Large falling pieces of steel from the Towers' perimeter walls are the probable cause of the holes in the roof seen from above. The pattern of damage of the building's structure does not support the idea that it was caused by explosives in the building.

<b>Fires</b>
Serious fires raged through WTC 5 for hours. Despite the massive structural damage shown by the holes, and fires far more severe than those in WTC 1, 2, and 7, WTC 5 did not collapse. FEMA's report has a number of photographs of Building 5 wreckage, and concludes that fires caused the collapse of portions of this building, without making a convincing case.

<b>Destruction</b>
