Shaking Island Battle! Barboach vs. Whiscash!

This episode was the original 101st Advanced Generation episode, but was banned because of the story's very similar relation to the catastrophic earthquakes   more...in Nigata, Japan a week before this episode was going to be aired. Believing it would have been insensitive to air an episode about earthquakes mere weeks after the disaster, it was postponed. However, it never got around to airing and was soon forgotten. This episode has never been aired anywhere in the world, and was the first Pokemon episode ever to have that fate, and it is the second Pokemon episode to be banned in Japan, after Electric Soldier Porygon. It is completely impossible to watch the entire episode, and the only evidence of this episode's existence is this preview. The episode itself was probably never finished anyway, so it doesn't count as an actual episode.  less

The Ice Cave (Banned Episode)

Air Date: May 30, 2002

Had this been aired outside of Japan, it would have aired inbetween "I Politoed Ya So! (Nyorotono's Cheerleading!)" and "Beauty is Skin Deep" (Ibuki and Miniryu) The reason this was not dubbed and thrown on the air in any country other than Japan was because of the presence of Jynx (Roguela), a character considered by some to be a racial stereotype. The article that claimed that Jynx is a racial stereotype caused so much controversy that any shot of Jynx or any episode of Jynx being one of the main Pokemon was removed for dubbed versions of the show. Nintendo redesigned Jynx in 2002, and changed its skin color on the face from black to purple, and its gloves from blue to purple. This change took effect late into the Advanced Generation series.

Out of all 5 of the officially banned episodes, this one is the least known one.

If anything, Jynx is not based off a black person. (This following article has been taken from Bulbapedia, many thanks to Bulbapedia for this) What Jynx is based on is a controversial topic within the fandom, although common interpretations are a Nordic woman (possibly Hel, goddess of the underworld). Also, the fact that Jynx are depicted as Santa's helpers in the anime can be a proof that Jynx is based on Zwarte Piet. Jynx may also have origins in the Japanese spirits known as Yuki Onna (who has no feet like Jynx) or Yama Uba, the latter of which is described as always wearing a tattered red kimono and having whitish-blonde hair (all traits shared by Jynx).

Electric Soldier Porygon (Also called Computer Soldier Porygon) (Banned Episode)

Ash, Misty and Brock arrive at Matcha City, and visit the Pokemon Center. While there- they discover a problem with the   more...Pokemon transporter.

This single episode is quite possibly the most dangerous cartoon ever made in the history of animation. When it was aired on December 16, 1997, it caused seizures to almost 700 children in Japan due to a flashing strobe effect in the third part of this episode, and was therefore never aired again anywhere in the world. It was the first Pokemon episode to be banned in Japan. Since then, Porygon and its evolutions have never appeared in another episode. Because of this episode, OLM has never used the strobe effects ever again. This was the first completely banned Pokemon episode (the other being Shaking Island Battle! Barboach VS Whishcash!!) but out of those 2 episodes, this one is the only viewable one. This is in Japanese with English subtitles.

According to Maddie Blaustein, 4Kids Entertainment DID in fact dub this episode, reducing the speed and intensity of the flashing explosion to make it safe, but the episode has still never been shown.

The Legend of Dratini (Miniryu) (Banned Episode) (High quality with updated subtitles)

Air Date: November 25, 1997

Ash, Misty and Brock arrive at the Safari Zone, where they meet the warden Kaiza, and   more...go to catch Pokemon.
The reason this episode was banned outside of Japan was because of the large use of firearms and swearing, and possibly because in the short sequence where James and Meowth do a police-like interogation on Kaiza, Meowth is wearing a mustache that looks like the mustache that Adolf Hitler had. Note that Kaizer points one of his revolvers right at Ash's face. That is probably the main reason why this episode was banned.

The omission of this episode created a huge plot hole, and that confused many fans on how Ash Ketchum caught 30 Tauros.
The shots of Kaiza pointing his revolvers at Ash, Misty and Brock were the major reason why this episode was never aired outside of Japan.

Even though this episode was banned in all countries that aired the show outside of Japan, it was still dubbed by 4Kids Entertainment and aired in Australia. If anyone knows where I can watch the dubbed version of this episode, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

The sub-par subtitles have been re-done to improve clarity, and some of them were re-typed and corrected, but some of the errors that the original subtitles originally had are still present- such as the error of calling a Rhyhorn Rhydon in the middle of the episode. But the subtitles have titling errors that are more related to the dub- the entire subtitled Team Rocket motto is incorrectly subtitled, and when Team Rocket blast off, it says "Team Rocket's blasting off again" they are really saying "Bad Feeling".

Of all the banned episodes, this is my second favorite after "Holiday at Acapulco".

The audio quality has been improved also.
