Robbie Keane's first goal since his £20.3m move from Tottenham helped Liverpool ease to victory over PSV Eindhoven in Champions League Group D.

Dirk Kuyt put the Reds ahead after four minutes, following   more...up after Andreas Isaksson saved Fernando Torres' volley.

Keane made it 2-0 before half-time when he hooked home Torres' bouncing cross.

Steven Gerrard wrapped up the win with a ferocious free-kick - his 100th goal for Liverpool - before Danny Koevermans bundled home a consolation for PSV.  less

Liverpool endured a frustrating afternoon as they were held to a goalless draw by Fulham at Anfield.

The best chance of an even first-half fell to Robbie Keane, but the Republic of Ireland striker shot   more...straight at keeper Mark Schwarzer from eight yards.

Fulham were not just content to soak up pressure and Andrew Johnson and Jimmy Bullard both tested Pepe Reina.

Liverpool dominated the second half but failed to capitalise and remain second behind Chelsea in the table.

If Rafael Benitez's side harbour serious ambitions of challenging for the Premier League title this season, however, then they will need to perform better than they did against the Cottagers.

Before Saturday's encounter the visitors had collected just one point on their travels but they turned in a disciplined and confident performance and for the first half at least, looked capable of adding three more to that total.  less

Steven Gerrard smashed in a 90th-minute drive as Liverpool came from behind to beat Middlesbrough at Anfield.

Striker Mido came off the bench to put the visitors ahead with a low, 30-yard drive on 70   more...minutes and it seemed his side were heading for victory.

But Jamie Carragher's drive from the edge of the box flew in off Boro's Emmanuel Pogatetz to give Liverpool an equaliser 16 minutes later.

And in stoppage time, Gerrard lashed in an angled shot to snatch the points.

Fernando Torres scored a hat-trick as Liverpool won their game in hand to move above Everton and into fourth place in the Premier League.

Torres superbly finished Dirk Kuyt's low cross from 12 yards and   more...struck after the break with a header following another cross from the Dutchman.

The Spain striker hit the post with a diving header before netting his third with a low finish from a tight angle.

Steven Gerrard scored the fourth with a spectacular long-range effort.  less

Liverpool win their 1st Premiership match of 2008

Robbie Keane scored his first Premier League goals for Liverpool as they beat West Brom to go three points clear of Chelsea at the top of the table.

A combination of Scott Carson's body and Jonas Olsson's   more...arm prevented Yossi Benayoun's shot opening the scoring.

But there was no stopping Keane when he latched on to Steven Gerrard's pass before clipping the ball over Carson.

Keane scored his second goal when he rounded Carson and slotted home before Alvaro Arbeloa curled in a late third.

Keane will be delighted to get off the mark in the league, following his £20m summer move from Tottenham.

And the Republic of Ireland international took his goals well as Liverpool made sure there would be no repeat of the collapse that saw them lose a lead and fall to defeat at Spurs a week ago.

It helped that this time they were up against a team in West Brom who have not won at Anfield for 41 years.

Once Liverpool went ahead, it never looked as though the visitors would bring an end to that poor run.  less

Steven Gerrard rescued Liverpool with a 95th-minute penalty after Maxi Rodriguez's opener had looked set to secure victory for Atletico Madrid.
Liverpool were denied a penalty early on despite Luis Perea   more...appearing to foul Daniel Agger, and instead they went behind when Rodriguez volleyed in.
The Reds felt they were again denied a spot-kick when Perea seemed to handle.
They got their chance at the third time of asking and Gerrard smashed home after he was fouled by Mariano Pernia.
A victory for Liverpool or Atletico would have secured them a place in the knockout stages as PSV Eindhoven were beaten by Marseille in Group G's other match.  less

Steven Gerrard's 76th-minute penalty kept Liverpool clear at the top of the table with victory over Portsmouth.

Gerrard scored after Papa Bouba Diop undid his side's resolute performance by handling a   more...corner in Pompey boss Tony Adams's first game in charge.

Until then, Dirk Kuyt's shot against the post was the closest Liverpool had come to a goal.

Yossi Benayoun was also denied for the home side after a last-ditch Sylvain Distin tackle before Gerrard's winner.

Pompey belatedly pushed forward in search of an equaliser after the goal but Liverpool held on for a win to stay three points clear at the top of the table.

However, it was a close call for the Reds after manager Rafael Benitez had made four changes from the side that beat Chelsea on Sunday.  less

Lucas Leiva grabbed Liverpool's winner as the Anfield side saw off the challenge of League One side Crewe.

Daniel Agger put the Reds ahead when he drove in a free-kick awarded for Michael O'Connor's foul   more...on David Ngog.

Liverpool were left lamenting a second-minute disallowed goal after they were held to a goalless draw at home by newly promoted Stoke.

Steven Gerrard had the ball in the back of the net after 76 seconds   more...from a free-kick - only for the goal to be controversially ruled out for offside.

Stoke continued to frustrate the home side as Thomas Sorensen saved Robbie Keane's 51st-minute strike.

And Andy Griffin's late goal-line clearance ensured the match was drawn.

After the heights of a 2-1 victory over rivals Manchester United last week, Liverpool will consider the solitary point a setback for their title ambitions, although they briefly took top spot in the Premier League before they were deposed by Arsenal.  less

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez earned his first Premier League win over Manchester United courtesy of Ryan Babel's deserved late winner.

Carlos Tevez had stunned the Reds after three minutes by expertly   more...sidefooting in a Dimitar Berbatov pull back.

United keeper Edwin Van der Sar palmed a clearance against Wes Brown and saw it roll into his net for the equaliser.

The Reds started to dominate and Babel scuffed in a shot for the winner before United's Nemanja Vidic was sent off.

The victory was Benitez's first in the top flight over United since he took over in the summer of 2004 and was achieved without Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres in the starting line-up.

Despite their star men being on the bench after returning from injury, Liverpool produced a performance of real verve to turn around a match which looked out of their grasp during the opening stages.

Three points seemed unlikely after Benitez saw his side fall behind in worrying fashion after just three minutes as United debutant Berbatov made an immediate impact for his new team.

He was reunited with ex-Tottenham strike partner Robbie Keane at Anfield as the duo lined up on opposing sides at Anfield.

And, while Keane has struggled to make an impact for Liverpool, Berbatov had no such trouble.

He latched on to a clever ball by Anderson and pulled a ball back from the byeline for Tevez, who lost marker Javier Mascherano, to unerringly beat Pepe Reina.  less

The result and timing of the goal was harsh on the Belgian champions, who had proved stubborn opponents for Liverpool.

The Kop left Rafael Benitez in no doubt about what they thought of speculation that Xabi Alonso could be sold to fund a move for Gareth Barry during the 1-0 friendly win over Italian side Lazio.

Songs outlining what the Anfield faithful felt about a deal for Aston Villa midfielder Barry were frankly unrepeatable - but the message was clear.

The captain will probably not make Wednesday's Champions League qualifier at Standard Liege due to a thigh problem, but it appears the Anfield boss settled on something similar to the side that will take the field in Belgium.

Liverpool were crisp and assertive, with Alonso pulling the strings in front of a 43,062 crowd.
