What an interesting idea, Laura, and a beautiful statue to start your series. It must have been grim, indeed, in the asylums of that era and you've really conveyed the desolation and pathos of that. This looks like a beautiful cemetery. I'm looking forward   more...

thank you, Doug. I have found the website for this asylum, and they have a number of early obituaries and articles posted online for researchers to peruse. Early asylums were grim, and many times people were sent to them simply for rebelling against   more...

well, the girl is fictional, hence the "imagined lives" in the subheading of my title. hehe. But her story is not so imagined... there was a state asylum in Lexington, KY, which housed only females and it did experience a wave of the cholera epidemic.   more...
