I presume the levers infront of the throttles that you skipped are the thrust reversers? ;)
Something I've always wondered, at what altitude do you punch the baro knob back to 2992?

Yep.
Depends on the country. In Australia, 10,000' on climb...11,000' on descent. In USA 18,000'. UK, around 5,000. New Zealand, 11,000'/ 15,000'.

Thanks. Now that you've pointed out that each dial has a back up, I'm only half as confused :-/
How many times have I heard this over the tannoy... "we are currently cruising at an altitude of 37,000ft"
This scares me. I'm worried that one of these

I'm worried too!!!!
Fortunately we now have a system that warns us of impending doom. I think that's to give us enough time to "assume the position"!! :-)

Civilian.
I paid for lessons, became an instructor, worked at that for a few years, then got the "big break".
It's a hard one..I thought about military but, as you said, no guarantees. My dad went guarantor for me for the loan for the lessons...back

in 1979/80..$8500 to get commercial licence. I'd hate to think how much nowadays.
Unfortunately I can't think of any tips, other than..If you REALLY want to do it, you will!

Oh, 429 knots = 795 kph (well 794.5, but I've been taught to round to the appropriate significant digit).
494 MPH.
I suppose with auto take off and auto landing, they won't need pilots anymore.
Do you ever feel tempted to tell the passengers that there

is a bit of turbulence ahead and then do some low g acrobatics? Or do the flight data recorders record long enough to tell on you?

The next generation af aircraft are to have a pilot and a dog....The pilot to feed the dog, the dog to bite the pilot if he touches anything! :-)

Anyone can get an aeroplane to land. The trick is keeping it in a condition good enough to takeoff again. :-)

Wow. I recognized most of those instruments from my Cessna 172 days. I'm fairly confident that I could fly that plane after a day of instruction. Meaning take off, flight, and landing. Unless your first officer had his hand on the yoke, I could see

With more training maybe I could land it too. :-)
Autopliot is on soon after takeoff until some time before landing.
