In one of my first apartments, they guy next door and his girlfriend (both somewhere between 50 and 70... it was hard to tell) would get drunk almost every night. They would scream at each other about who was the bigger alcoholic -- She because she drank
more...
whiskey or he because he drank beer. It would usually escalate until one or the other passed out.
If it was he, all would be quiet. If it was she, he would start playing Scottish pipe band music on a scratchy phonograph at full blast. Occasionally he would turn it off before he passed out which was good because we didn't have to listen to the needle scratching around the label for hours on end.... full blast.
Once in a while, they would get physical and he would hang her out the bathroom window by her hair until the police came. Of course, in those days, the police couldn't actually arrest him for hanging her by her hair out the bathroom window, just suggest that she go someplace else for the night.
We preferred the nights when he passed out first.
Ahhh sweet memories....
