1 source that sometimes adds a bit of insight is Yahoo news's "in the war zone with Kevin s/thing" there are others I come across occasionally, but the main thing I hear is what mostly is reported, that is that the regime they had gave them absolutley

no personal freedoms and was very restrictive for both men and women and was brutal in enforcing it's religious will against it's own ppl. only a small percentage of the general populous had anything to gain from this situation. Afghanistan was once a more modern society especially in the cities but this is lost now. There is an Afghan woman who has been lobbying in Australia and elsewhere since the mid 60's or 70s to try to get the west motivated to bring stability and a decent system back to Afghan society.

It is a terrible shame upon American voters, who repeatedly re-filled Congress with cowards and the corrupt, that this criminal named Bush was not impeached, convicted of war crimes, and imprisoned, years ago.
