Well, I listen to music...JAZZ...seems to help me alot these days whenever I am having a bad time. Of course, FOOD. I am REALLY trying to STOP that one. Reading helps.

for sure I'd prefer physical pain over emotional. Emotional takes too long to recover from usually compared to physical.
As to how do I comfort myself? Eh usually just play the online game I play World of Warcraft. Sometimes i'll eat if it's emotional

and sleep if it's either type. Just depends on what kind of pain it is and even then if it's emotional how bad/depressed I am feeling.

Emotional pain is easy because it's all I know.
I recently sprained the ACL thingy in my left knee and I'm a real wussy about that pain for sure, and because of that injury I can't smack gold balls at the driving range like I always do to assuage my emotional

I forgot about my favorite band. I like classical music for the most part, but I always go back to Chicago for real good music you can do just about anything to.

Most people don't have extreme physical pain like I have with spinal stenosis, arthritis, and herniated disks. Believe me, emotional pain is a cakewalk in comparison.

Well Since you most likely don't have a Dirt Bike to Jump on and Fly through the desert.. I would suggest a Bath with oils or salts some good incense a bunch of candles and a new book.. something fantasy with mystic places and lore.. Hope all is well

in the winter, a hot beverage or yummy soup
if I have a headache, Excedrin or equivalent (works really quick because of all the caffeine in it)
if I have body pain, Advil is the best (or any ibuprofen).

more...
is good or Handel, chamber music with just a few instruments or maybe just a solo
take a nice hot shower, the sound of the water, the steam, relaxing effects ... someone said that chlorine in water turns to chloroform mist, so maybe that explains why hot showers it works so well
go for a walk with some music, or go for a bike ride
play the guitar... playing an instrument is like taking a mini vacation and you forget about everything... it resets your brain to normal mode
sing a song... breathing and putting feeling into singing works well
talk to someone who listens well and cares and makes you realize it'll all be alright with time
stretching helps a lot, with music too

I am an expert at sleeping, no matter how upset I might be, I can usually easily sleep, so that's my #1 escape. And it helps deal with stress.
#2, I like to watch movies, any sort of movies, but they make me forget about my own life, esp. war movies.

I would prefer physical pain if I had a choice, because you can still enjoy life even if suffering physically.
