Clive Myrie from the BBC said something very interesting (perhaps the only truly honest thing in all this mess). He said some about the crew that you are shadowing will always present the lines which make them look best in the eyes of the public, and

if you are AWARE of that fact, you can then begin to report OBJECTIVELY...I am disgusted that the Men on this earth have truly resorted to 1984 propaganda tactics and the re-writing of history; yet what I am even disgusted more with is that the people in this fine nation TAKE IT, BLINDLY! Like grass growing in time lapse photography...each movement invisible to the naked eye, but without interruption, it does consume the HOUSE. Thank you, as always, for this information...

i am most interested in this series so thanks for posting it.
my nephew spent over a year just west of Baghdad and i have seen the footage he took of battles and civilian life over there, their reception by the locals and the relationships developed

between members of the company, the loyalty and dedication to their purpose, the constructive things they did over there in establishing schools where there had been none before. He had footage taken during the first voting session over there. He and his company were responsible for uncovering and capturing a few of the top terrorists and he had some footage of the door-to-door searches, the digging, etc. Also he had his camera running when they were in the thick of battle but no picture to be seen...only voices and sounds of explosions. There was a real sense of both the fear and excitement. There was some filmed reaction to the news coverage we were getting over here and how they understand and see their mission. It was fairly well rounded footage, not only of the battle fields because there is much, much more going on over there than battles.
i think it serves us all to see different perspectives and try to be open to all frames of reference.
He will be redeployed soon and he is both fearful and excited. He wants to see for himself what has been going on over there as he is certain what we have been fed is not truthful and fair coverage.
i think we may have a fairer idea by observing foreign press coverage.
Truth is, none of us know the whole story. None of us civilians know what the government knows and that is right as it serves to protect it's military and be as effective as possible which is lost when strategies, covert operations and information are uncovered.
Every single war has been deemed wrong by some faction or other but all have depended on covert operations as a matter of security. Same with getting information from the enemy when possible. Our own safety depends on it to some degree.
Anyway, thanks again for the perspective.
