Good topic and good suggestions. I practice in back roads but even then you have to be careful, specially when practicing panic braking. It's funny how cars just appear behind you, seemingly out of nowhere. But i think it true that you revert to established

habits. Practicing good skills is necessary and invaluable.

I couldn't agree more. It has been shown over and over again that in an emergency you will resort to training.
Pocketing the brass in a gun fight? Now that is scary. Those guys are lucky to have been able to do that. Heck, the way I learned it was

you reload at any opportunity too. You don't want to be on your last round with two bad guys facing you.
Usually gun fights last about 2 seconds from under seven feet. So pocketing your brass is not likely to come up. Especially with a semi-automatic pistol that ejects each casing anyway.

no need to "practice" on the road.. I get the real situation on the #2 every day on my way home from work :/
you go from 60mph to 0 for no apparent reason.

To be quite honest, I never ready thought of it that way. The analogy that Britex said was right on. I think a good early Sunday morning would do just fine for me. Thanks Atlas for sharing this.

Yea my clutch is starting to go. Nice ear you have there. Debating whether or not I should try doing it myself. I'm a novice when it comes to bike maintenance. Do you have an idea of how difficult it is?

I totally agree, totally. :-)
You will always revert to "what you know". "What you know" is what you've trained/practiced.
This also applies to obstacle avoidance manoevres.
With braking, I was taught the rhyme: setup, ease and squeeze.

I totally agree, its all about location and imagenation.
My dad once told me when I had a really bad time out on the road cause of close calls
"Expect the unexpected."

I agree totally. Another example is you will never be able to ride in the rain safely unless you actually ride and practice in the rain!
