 | Mike Stone started in 1967 as a pirate DJ broadcasting radio programs from his attic. He used old ham radio equipment modified to transmit on 160 meters and was heard as far away as 80 miles. During the time that Mike attended Elder High School, he met up with Hank Driver who had the same interests as he did. "It was amazing" said Stone, "It was like looking into a mirror and seeing a reflection of myself, except I didn't have a WKLN tie clip.", see Hank had a WTNT tie clip that sparked the long relationship with Hank Driver. "It was so funny, Hank also had a radio station in his attic" This relationship turned into Driver-Stone and The Rebel Broadcasting Company. This was just a hobby to Mike Stone and later he pursued the idea of becoming an on the air for real DJ and attended classes at the University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music where he did campus broadcasting at 800 WFIB. This is where the legendary Hamburger Hotline was originated which brought in calls from the entire Clifton area. "I remember starting the Hamburger Hotline because at the time WFIB was located in an old house on Siota Street not far from McDonald's on Calhoun Street", said Mike Stone. "We would offer burgers and fries to our listeners just to confirm to us they were actually listening to our broadcast" And they were, WFIB had great listener response and rating during that time. Stone was under the leadership of Jack Stalh and and infamous George Smith who later was part of building many (if not all) of the Clifton 70's Disco scene. Mike Stone did not single handle this broadcasting era, there was Eugene Von St. Rodney and Hank Driver. Mike Stone went on to work in Telecommunications, Hank Driver is an Airline Controller in Atlanta,GA and Eugene Von St. Rodney is an architect in Southern California. Jack Stahl went on to be a detective for the Cincinnati Police Department and George Smith owns Smith-Hall Electronics. The Mike Stone legacy continues with Mike Stone Productions
