In the name of all that all is holy

Scaling the dark side of an unfamiliar heaven
Where a crooked path of broken dreams guide the way
Toward the unlit tunnel of uncertain tomorrow
Into which our journey often leads without invitation
Filled with unlimited hope, misfortune and inevitably despair
The air grows thin as we scale the cliffs of happiness and sorrow
Our broken hearts and calloused limbs cautiously climb each incline
Like Sisyphus we carry upon our backs the endless memories   more...of time
Unable to forget the station our cross travails beyond each abyss
As we carry the baggage of our species like armor going off to battle
Into an endless war often called for indefensible reasons never refuted
Like loyal warriors of crusade or jihad we move forward without question
Wreaking havoc upon all within our way as if some deity commanded it so
Never caring where our travels lead though we know each claim is disputed
We persevere for that divine offer of eternal rapture and infinite delight
As our weapons of ignominy unable to shield us from the woe we cause
Are turned upon us by the evil we provoke in some deity’s familiar name
While we battle onward and upward scaling heaven’s once joyful heights
Knowing in thee back of our deceitful minds full well the woe
We cause will find its way back into our own precariously protected domain
And no matter how we try to justify our actions in all their horror
The evidence of our undeniable guilt will eternally remain for those who one day follow
Upon the crooked path we once we blazed in infamy and delight toward an unfamiliar heaven
Without invitation or provocation to excuse the cliffs we scaled or the sorrow we caused along the way
Our actions will only lead others to follow reaping the same rewards on day soon
Even as we praise our efforts and our plight without question or condolence
In unison alone to a waning moon and our own ideals we will too easily betray

GRASPING AT EACH LAST BREADTH AS MEMORIES SCURRY BY
INTO AND OUT OF WHAT MIGHT HAVE NEVER BEEN OR WILL NEVER BE
IN HOPES OF FINDING SOME SORT OF RELIEF INESCAPABLY REMOTE
WHILE IN SILENT VERSE ONE WILL EMOTE THEIR ENDLESS DESPERATION
AS IF IN PRAYER TO RECEIVE UNKNOWN RESPIRATION
WHERE EACH INHALED BREATH DEPARTS WITHOUT REPLY
OR ANSWERS   more...TO UNDEFINED QUESTIONS SEEKING MORE THAN WHY
OR WHEREFORE SO HERE WE ARE LOST AND THEREFORE
CAPTIVE TO SOME UNREACHABLE STAR UNDISCOVERED
NO MATTER HOW NEAR OR FAR IN INDESCRIBABLE RELIEF
WHERE MEMORIES WAVER IN AGE AND DISBELIEF
AS I PERHAPS IN EACH ENDLESS QUESTION ANSWERS RESIDE
TO COMFORT EACH MOMENT WHILE IT SOMEWAY DERIDES
WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN OR STILL MIGHT BE
ADRIFT WITHIN THE LIES OF DEVOTIONAL PROFANITY
EMBEDDED IN THE GLIMPSES OF DISTANT DREAM UNTRUE
WHERE OUR SLEEPLESS HOURS SEEM TO FOREVER DWELL
WITHIN THAT ENTANGLED WEB AND ENDURING VOW HOPES WAVER
LIKE AN UNFAMILAR FLAG OF AN ILLDEFINED NATION
WE NEVER KNEW EXCEPT FOR THE FADED PHOTOGRAPHS IMBUED
WITH THOSE VAINGLORIOUS VISIONS OF DISTANT DREAM ASKEW
AS IF EACH INFALLIBLE PERCEPTION HAD MORE THAN A CLUE
TO STATE WHO WAS WHERE WITH WHAT AT ANY RATE DUE
YET THESE ARE BUT GAMES TO THOSE AIMLESS REPLIES
BENEATH THE UNCOVERED STONES WHERE OUR MEMORIES LIE
IN SEARCH OF ANSWERS NEVER NEAR DESPITE IMMEDIATE PROXIMITY
OF WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN YET IN FACT WILL NEVER BE
ONE DISTANT DAY WHERE THE SHADOWS OF OUR DESIRES DISMAY
WITHIN THE TWINKLING OF INNER BLOOD SHOT EYE IN NEED OF SLEEP
WHILE STRAINING TO REMAIN AWAKE WHERE EACH SOUL SINKS DEEP
INTO TOMORROWS ETERNAL BEND AND IF I HAD KNOWN WHY PRETEND
EXCEPT FOR THE CHANCE TO WANDER AMIDST THE CLOUDS WHEREUNDER THOSE ENDLESS DREAMS AND NIGHTMARES STILL SING
AS IF FOREVER LOST WITHIN THE CALUMNY OF CAVERNOUS SPRING
WITH HOPE ADRIFT CLINGING TO ETERNAL FOREVER IN DUBIOUS DOUBT
IN HOPE THERE COULD BE FOUND AN ANSWER UPON WHICH TO SHOUT
INTO AND OUT OF WHAT ONE WOULD WISH FOR BUT MAY NEVER BE
UPON THAT RECEDING SHORELINE WHERE TOMORROW IS UNDERTOW

Within a matter seconds although it did seem
A life time appeared to vanish along with a dream
That somewhere became lost in the void of routine
It’s as almost as if one turned around
With something more than I love you to say
That when the words finally made there way out
There was no one to reply it’s alright don’t dismay
A feeling of alone crept up to slap you in the face
To wonder aimlessly aloud how did I come to this place
Overlooking tomorrow’s darkened   more...abyss
Longing for a warm comforting embrace
That had once conjured a paradise of bliss
Instead of a now lingering bitter after taste of remiss
Who would have thought that within in the thick
Of battles hard fought but rarely won
An onus had arose to which one so easily succumbed
To a mere trick played upon the blinking of an eye
Where all had been lost to the moment while wondering why
Perhaps if there was a chance wishes really came true
We would still be standing close together in embrace
As we would so often do, but without you here
That seems such a long time ago much too long to remember
Where time now often finds life on the precipice of December
Awaiting with melancholy what will now never be
But the mere waiting alone prefacing songs of solemnity
That echo still within your curative angelic laughter
Which so remind me why I fell in love with your life everafter
Where time caused me to fortunately stumble in awe
into your endearing web of endearing romantic guffaw
like a verb past imperfect I cling to the heaven I never saw
yet here remain like an exposed nerve in pain all the more
dangling like an orphan participle in search of a rhyme
to bring me back into your loving arms in some other time
