As waste continues to stick to the walls of the colon, and more...as the colon increases in diameter, this six-foot-long organ swells in size and pushes against its neighboring organs. This puts physical pressure on these nearby organs, literally pushing them down or aside. This in turn not only distorts their shape but increases their internal pressure.
This unnatural internal pressure constricts blood vessels and other pathways in the afflicted organs. Such constriction hampers circulation of vital fluids such as blood, interfering with the flow of nutrients and oxygen to these organs. With a decrease in oxygen comes stagnation and a weakened ability for that organ to flush out waste products. This leads to wastes putrefying in the affected organ creating additional waste products. To this is added the toxins that are brought in from outside of our bodies and you have a vicious circle that slowly gains momentum.
The colon is not the only organ that can become enlarged by stored waste. The liver, kidneys, pancreas, joints, brain, and other organs also store toxic substances which restrict their normal function. In fact, as these organs fill up with wastes internally they develop an outward pressure somewhat like a balloon being blown up. This outward pressure wars against the pressure forced on it by neighboring organs magnifying the pressure. You could think of it as a form of "negative acupressure" in which physical pressure is placed on organs to their harm.
Systems such as the lymph system and circulatory system, plus tissues, are also prone to this same phenomenon, down to the cellular level.

Constipation can also alternate with diarrhea. This pattern is more commonly considered as part of the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). At the extreme end of the constipation spectrum is fecal impaction, a condition in which stool hardens in the rectum and prevents the passage of any stool.The number of bowel movements generally decreases with age. Ninety-five percent of adults have bowel movements between three and 21 times per week, and this would be considered normal. The most common pattern is one bowel movement a day, but this pattern is seen in less than 50% of people. Moreover, most people are irregular and do not have bowel movements every day or the same number of bowel movements each day. Medically speaking, constipation usually is defined as fewer than three bowel movements per week (this is crazy). Severe constipation is defined as less than one bowel movement per week ( a road to disease). There is no medical reason to have a bowel movement every day ( that is why medicine is very flawed). Going without a bowel movement for two or three days does not cause physical discomfort, only mental distress for some people. Contrary to popular belief, there is no evidence that "toxins" accumulate when bowel movements are infrequent or that constipation leads to cancer ( give me a break, if you do not eliminate waste where else can the toxins go?).It is important to distinguish acute (recent onset) constipation from chronic (long duration) constipation. Acute constipation requires urgent assessment because a serious medical illness may be the underlying cause (e.g., tumors of the colon).
