Cause I don't want to write my English Paper...
Monday, March 2, 2009 (5:23 PM)
The point of college is to study?
Nah.
Ironic that I'm procrastinating writing my English paper (on Silence of the Lambs mind you... blech) by writing but... that's okay.
So I know I said at the beginning of [last] semester that I was going to update this blog regularly, and that obviously hasn't happened, but a lot has been going on.

I feel as though freshman year I kind of just floated through college, not really taking in active role in the Marquette community aside from the whole... basketball culture that exists here. This year, however, I have taken a much different path, and I like it a lot but at times it is extremely overwhelming... especially now that it's midterms week.
Last semester I got a student job at our student union on campus (conveniently located right across the pedestrian mall from my dorm =P) and I still work there this semester, but I'm *hopefully* getting a job with the Office of Student Development next year working as a Programs Assistant for Leadership Programs (which is basically a job where I get to mentor freshmen and facilitate team building stuff that goes on with the RAs and different student organizations... pretty fun). I actually had my interview today and I think it went really well but I've been known to come off a little shy at first so as of now I can only hope for the best. Don't get me wrong, I like my job this semester for the most part, but it's food service/cashiering and although I love all the full time staff from the city as well as the student workers I feel like it's time to move on and get a different type of job.

Next week is spring break and I'm nervous/excited because I'm going on a service trip to Iowa. I'm not exactly sure what we're going to be doing there but I know it's along the lines of Habitat for Humanity. The city I'm going to be staying in was hit pretty hard by all the flooding that happened this and last summer and me and some other Marquette students are just going to be trying to relieve some of the damage that was done.

As of now, with the exception of working that is, I'm taking 6 classes and I'm involved with two organizations on campus. Since the beginning of the school year I've been involved with my dorm's hall council. It's a lot of fun... mainly because I really like our hall director and assistant hall director, the e-board, and a lot of the RAs. I'm on the community service committee within hall council and one thing we've consistently been doing is (and it sounds kinda gross but...) trash 4 cash, which is basically where we go throughout our dorm and offer to take peoples' trash down to the basement for a dollar donation that goes to a different charity each week. As I said before, it sounds gross but it's actually kind of fun because we get to interact with people we normally wouldn't interact with in our own building, and the money goes to a lot of good causes within Milwaukee. I'm also on the Community Awareness/Public Relations Committee within the Hunger Clean-Up Leadership Team. Hunger Clean-Up is Marquette's largest one day service project. It's actually a really cool event where students form teams and are shuttled to different sites in Milwaukee to either help to clean up the city, go visit people at a nursing home, or even go serve food at soup kitchens. To help fundraise for the event as well as to provide community awareness for it, my committee is collaborating with my dorm's hall council to have a dance-a-thon. It's a lot of work but I think it will be awesome to see it come together and I'm really excited. As if all this isn't enough I volunteer at a place called the Milwaukee Christian Center on Tuesday evenings. MCC is an after school program for kids that go to Milwaukee Public Schools (which, as I'm sure you all know, are not in the best shape). It's a really cool place because it has a lot of activities for the kids to do that most of their families can't afford. The kids are great and I love going there but at the same time it saddens me to see the economic conditions their families are in. Volunteering there has really opened my eyes as to what is going on outside the so-called "bubble" I've been in my entire, sheltered life.

I know this is a lot to read through but I just wanted to let you guys know what has been going on with me and why I've been M.I.A. for the past few (or more) months. After spring break I'm really going to try to update this blog more like I said I was going to at the beginning of the school year.

Also, don't think I've forgotten about college hoops... I probably won't be able to help myself and I'll start talking about basketball in my next blog.

Peace, Love & Understanding (get it? =P)

(I'm feeling anxious)
I really like how I was right (so far, pending what happens in the AL central) in all of my AL regular season standings and the only thing I got wrong in the NL was that I thought the Cards were going to get the WC (haha what the heck was I thinking? just kidding! yeah not really... I dunno)
... I hope my post season predictions are kind of right, but.. okay as of now this is what I think's gonna happen...

AL
Rays over Twins
Angels over Red Sox
Angels over Rays **yeah I know it's still the same, we'll see

NL
Phillies over Brewers
Cubs over Dodgers
Cubs over Phillies (** the Cubs are playing very well right now but, we'll see... curse pending)

World Series
Angels over Cubs

P.S. I'm going to the 3rd playoff game between the Phils and the Brewers... SO EXCITED!

I am so sorry I haven't been keeping up with this at all... I'm really trying but, yeah, 18 credit hours SUCKS, I have an on campus job, and I'm in a few organizations at school that require more time that I don't have...

On the bright side, CUBS CLINCHED.

So yeah, really sorry guys! I will try really hard to get an entry and pictures of what I've been up to next weekend, and I have fall break in 3 weeks (I think... haha please don't hold me to it I'm not looking at a calender at the moment) so I'll be able to make one or two videos... maybe more, it depends how bored I am at home.

Peace, Love & the Chicago Cubs-

18 credit hours are gonna kill me.
Sunday, August 31, 2008 (3:28 PM)
(I'm feeling anxious)
Like the title of my blog says...
I'm pretty much dead.

I'm really stressed out and I'm only a week into the school year... I never realized how much work it would be to take 18 credit hours (6 classes). It's seriously ridiculous. Last semester I only took 15 credits and 1st semester of last year I took 16... so it's kind of a big jump from that. In one of my comm classes I have to give a speech every week and this friday I have to give a speech introducing either a famous politician or author... I was going to do JK Rowling but I figured that would be really dorky of me, so now I don't know who I am going to give my speech on. Also, my philosophy professor is suuuch a creep. He looks like Brad Pitt but he has Arnold Schwarzenegger's nose so he's not cute like Brad Pitt (... used to be). Also he randomly busts out into Greek and he's just all around confusing and his lectures make no sense.

On a high note, yesterday my friends and I went to a concert on campus. The first band that played is called Ryanhood...
They are seriously amazing! I think I might like them more than Jason Mraz (who they actually have toured with). Plus Jason Mraz is my favorite artist, so that's saying a whole lot.
After the show we went up to talk to them and they were really sweet and one of the guys in it, Ryan Green, is one of the most attractive men I have ever seen... it was pretty much amazing. Cam Hood, the other guy in the group, was really nice to me and, yeah, all around they're both really nice, talented guys and I think they're gonna make it big soon... they definitely deserve it.
The next guy that performed was Ross Copperman. He was okay but was kind of a jerk to the AV people. We didn't want to leave though because almost no one was there and we felt bad because he looked like he was having a real hard time having to play in front of about 20 people (10 people if you only count the people who were actually listening). He was actually a little bit of a jerk about that too but I could imagine it would be really hard to have a concert that only 20 people come to...

Anyhow, update on the phone: still cracked, and getting worse. I have to find a t-mobile store but I need to think of a good lie first... (oh man I'm a bad person).

Peace, Love & Ryanhood-

Emily

P.S. If you want to check out Ryanhood (and you definitely should, they are GREAT) you can go to...

 I can't even believe myself.
Thursday, August 28, 2008 (10:47 PM)
(I'm feeling angry)
So... I don't know if y'all caught that Phillies/Cubs game...
(If you didn't, go to either cubs.com or phillies.com to get caught up, and then come back and read the rest of this)
So, Lord Voldemort (Ryan Madson, but he shaved his head so he looks like Voldemort) gave up a home run to Mike Fontenot (FonteYes) and I was really happy...
Then they brought Chad Durbin in and he ended up giving up a grand slam to Aramis Ramirez and the score was 6-4 Cubs.

I snapped.
I went into my room (I was in my friend, and Cub fanatic, Colleen's room), slammed the door... and threw my cell phone on the ground. Threw it was so much force that the entire screen shattered. I am not kidding.

... Apparently I'm a diehard Phillies fan.
WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN???????????????????????????????????????????????

No Peace, No Love, & No More Watching Cubs/Phillies Games-

back to school... back to school...
Monday, August 25, 2008 (8:57 PM)
(I'm feeling dorky)
Here marks the first blog while I'm at school... right now my roommate is being ridiculous... but that's really not that unusual. Right now she's informing me of all the "Punk Goes..." cds. My friend Colleen decided to record us earlier trying to put up Christmas lights under our "cubby" that our desks are in (we call it a cubby because they are under my lofted bed). We were really hyper earlier and we had a lot of outbursts while we were trying to finish decorating our room. I'm going to take pictures of our room because it's amazing. We decided to make the kind of theme for our room tropical because we have a lot of blue and green items. Basically it looks amazing with all of our tropical decorations, plus our good old fish, Cash Money (yeah that's his name, don't ask). We also have this huge Grease movie poster and my roommate got a Harry Potter poster from the movie theatre too which was kind of funny because her mom was making fun of her for it and calling her a nerd and a dork for having it, but whatever, we love it. I was gonna get that poster of the sign in front of Wrigley Field that says "Cubs Win" but my dad got me a Phillies poster and I think he would have been disappointed in me if I had a Cubs poster too (because he has to try and convert me every day of my life). But again, I don't know what he was thinking because Cole Hamels isn't even on it! ... but Chase is so I guess it's okay.

We had our first day of classes today, and oh, big news, one of our basketball players, Trevor Mbawke, decided to quit the basketball team and go back to Minnesota where his family is. I'm really angry about it because he was supposed to be a big part of our front court this year and the coaching staff here spent the entire summer working with him... but last night he up and decided he didn't want to be here anymore... ugh. Who doesn't want to be at Marquette? Seriously? But enough about basketball... I have the schedule from hell but my mondays and fridays aren't so bad because I only have 2 classes those days but on tuesdays and thursdays I have 2 classes in the morning and a night class from 5:45-7, and even worse, wednesdays I have a night class from 5:45-8:25... seriously... no comment. I'd better not miss any basketball games because of it.

Other than that I don't exactly have anything interesting to report. This weekend apparently there's this HUGE Harley Davidson convention/parade in downtown Milwaukee and so there are going to be a ton of bikers all over campus... should be interesting. Also a few weekends from now, me and a group of my friends are going to my friend Elizabeth's boyfriend's soccer game (he's a goalie for a college in Illinois) and we're going to stay down there for the weekend and stay in a hotel and everything so it should be pretty fun. I'm not sure what I'm doing this weekend but hopefully we'll figure something out because this past weekend we really didn't do anything because not that many of my friends have a car at school because it's really inconvenient and we couldn't get our bus passes until this morning. There's a lot to do downtown though so we'll figure something out... I hope. Also I might get a job at this sports bar/bowling alley that's pretty much on campus. I'm really excited because it's an awesome place... it's all decked out with marquette paraphernalia and it was rated by Sports Illustrated as one of the "best places to watch a game" in the U.S. Also, I'll be a waitress or a hostess so when it's not busy or I'm on break or something I can watch baseball or whatever sport is in season at the time... I really hope I get to work there!

Okay, wow, I just realized how much I wrote and probably none of it was interesting... oh wellz. When I take pictures I'll upload them and post them on my next blog or in my photos section if y'all want to see...

 U... S... A
Wednesday, August 13, 2008 (2:25 PM)
(I'm feeling chipper)
So I'm just sitting here watching the olympics/the phillies game (mostly the olympics because it's gymnastics and swimming, only my two favorite olympic events!) ... Alright, Walrond just struck a guy out with the bases loaded to end the inning, sweeet!

Anyhow, I was planning on addressing this in a video, and I might STILL address it in a video because I don't know how many people who watch my videos are aware that I write a blog too (well okay, one entry of a blog... but I'll be getting better with that, I promise).
So here's the dealio...
because during the school year last year I pretty much had 0 videos up, this year I'm going to update you guys by actually using this blog... I KNOW! I enjoy writing, I mean up until last semester I wanted to be a journalist, so, writing is just what I do. So that's the plan... hopefully people can stand reading a couple paragraphs. I mean I'm sure I'll have a TON to write about that October is soon approaching (a.k.a. the best time of the year).

... and speaking of October, I'm gonna go ahead and make my baseball predictions, right here right now. Enjoy... haha.

Since I don't know very much about the AL, I'm just gonna go with my gut here, so don't laugh at my lack of knowledge, because I realize I DO lack knowledge. So here we go...

 It's been awhile...
Sunday, April 20, 2008 (4:55 PM)
(I'm feeling anxious)
Alrighty, so I can't exactly make a video right now because I am sitting in my dorm room and I'd rather if people didn't think I was crazy-psycho talking to myself, but it's been QUITE awhile since I've posted anything so I decided I'd update you guys (even though I'm sure no one will read this because I know no one really cares... which is just fine!)

Anyhow... maybe I shall make a list because I really don't know how else to cover the vast array of topics that are floating around in my head right now.

1. I'll be home in 3 weeks. May 10th to be exact. I'm pretty excited about it because I am quite sick of school right now. This is because reason #2...

2. I am sick of school because I can't deal with boys. There is this boy in particular that is pretty annoying because he has, for some reason, decided that I am just amazing and won't leave me alone. Now, I don't exactly like him but I don't want to hurt his feelings... but the things he says to me sometimes really creep me out and I'm getting pretty afraid, so I'll be glad when the semester ends and we both go back to our respective towns. The only bad thing is that he lives about 40 minutes away from me so he'll still probably find some way to annoy me over the summer.

3. I'm sick of boys because the boy that I actually like... guess where he lives when he's not at school? Oh wait hold up... ohh... HAWAII. Freaking Hawaii...

4. I'm anxious because I have to give a presentation in theology tomorrow and my partner and I are convinced it's a joke to the professor. Why is this? While other peoples' topics have been violence in Christianity, etc, other serious topics, ours is Google Gods. Do you know what that is? It's when people worship google as their God. No. Joke.

5. Tom Crean is a douchebag. Do you guys follow college basketball? Probably not. But I'm going to update you anyhow and say that Dominic James will be back for his senior year. Do you know who he is? I doubt it. But I do, and I love it.

6. I'm going to the Brewers/Phillies game this Wednesday. Why does this matter? I guess it doesn't really but I wanted to brag about it because Cole Hamels is pitching and since he's the love of my life and everything...

7. I switched my major again. I'm pretty sure that might be a problem because that's all I have done all year. Now it's Corporate Comm... what do you do with that? Good question!

Okay well I've completely lost most of the thoughts that were going on inside of my brain so I'm just going to stop talking now... but I may update this later, and if not, look for me starting May 11th, I have some video ideas... lots of video ideas actually, and I will finally have time to make them once this semester is over!

Peace, Love & Peanut Butter-
